Rose's Point Of View.
''I will need you to step away from him.'' A paramedic said. She was female but I didn't even see her. I couldn't even see what was right in front of me. My eyes were blurry, I was crying so much. I was leaning down beside Theodore on the ground.
''You need to step away.'' She said again. I shook my head, I wasn't leaving him.
''Ma'am, please.''
All of a sudden there were arms around me, pulling me away from Theodore. He lay motionless on the floor, there was blood starting to pool all around him.
''NO, let me go,'' I struggle to get out of the strong arms.
They didn't let me go.
I watched as some paramedics turned Theodore on his back. His face was pale. His hair looked even darker than usual. His eyelids where shut. I didn't even see his chest moving up and down. Was he still alive?
''Get her out.' Someone said.
''NO!'' I screamed but it didn't do anything. I was pulled away into the kitchen.
''Keep her here.'' A man said, I presumed that he was the one who was holding me.
'Rose come here.'' Ella said and wrapped her arms around me.
I had began to shake. I shut my eyes and held onto Ella.
''What if he's dead?'' I sobbed into her shoulder.
''No don't think like that.''
''He wasn't breathing.''
''He's going to be alright.'' Ella said.
''There was so much blood.''
''The paramedics will stop that.''
''How do you know?''
Ella let go of the hug and held me at arms length and looked right into my eyes.
''It's going to ok.' She said, rather convincingly.
''Are you the girlfriend?'' The same male voice came from behind me.
I turned around faster than ever.
''I am.'' I said, wiping my eyes.
''If you wish you may come-''
''Yes.'' I said and ran past him. I ran towards the front door and walked outside.
They were putting Theodore into the ambulance. It seemed like Deja Vu.
I began to walk towards the end of the drive way where the ambulance was parked when out of nowhere two police cars pulled up. I stopped in my tracks. What now?
Three police men and one police woman stepped out of the car and began making their way towards the ambulance. The woman paramedic stopped them and said something to them and pointed towards me. All four police officers turned to look at me. I stopped breathing for a split second, what did they want?
They began to walk towards me. I stood near the doorway, feeling the cold starting to bite my skin.
All four officers approached me and suddenly I felt very small. They all exchanged a look before one of them turned to look at me. He was tall and bald, seemed like he was the oldest of them all.
''How are you?'' He asked.
I didn't reply, what did they expect me to say?
''You saw what happened?'' He asked again.
I nodded.
''Mind if we ask you a few questions.''
I shook my head.
''Shall we go inside?''
''No.'' I replied, I didn't want to go back inside.
''Ok, can you tell us what happened?''
I shut my eyes and the image of his father stabbing Theodore flashed before my eyes. I opened them again, I didn't need to relive it all again.
''He was stabbed.'' I whispered, my voice wobbly.
The woman officer was holding a notebook and scribbled down something.
''Do you know who did it?'' The bald officer asked.
The other two just stood there. One was tall and chubby with dark hair and the other one was skinny with blonde hair. I wondered if they got paid for just standing around.
''His father.'' I replied.
''Was there an argument?''
I slightly flinched as I recalled what Theodore had said, or well yelled at his dad.
''Yes.''
''Could you give us an idea of what it was about?'
I crossed my arms, hugging myself. I looked at where the ambulance was and ... It wasn't there anymore.
''NO.'' I shouted and pushed my way past the police officers.
''No, they left. No I have to get to the hospital,'' I said, more to myself.
''We need you to answer our questions first.'' The bald officers was behind me.
''YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND, THE QUESTIONS CAN WAIT, MY BOYFRIEND CAN'T'' I shouted, turning to face him.
The officer flinched and turned to look at his fellow officers.
''Bring her down, we can ask the questions later.'' He said and I was surprised he did. But then again, even if he hadn't I would have probably ran to the hospital.
The woman officer walked to my side and guided me to the car. I got in and she shut the door.
I sat in the car staring outside the window. I couldn't believe what had just happened. Was this only a dream? Could it be a dream? What had happened to my life? It a space of a few days I was suddenly turned into someone I didn't even recognize. I felt like an emotional wreck, and I never felt this way. I didn't know if I was going to be able to recover. I hoped that Theodore was ok, if he had died I didn't know if I could live through that. I had just began to actually care about him and already felt like I wasn't going to live if he wasn't in my life.
The car started and we drove off. The woman said something but I didn't fully hear her. I felt like my ears were blocked and I couldn't think or focus on anything else but Theodore. Let him be ok, I kept repeating to myself.
What kind of a father stabs his own son? I shut my eyes and felt a hot tear roll down my cheek. Was this what happened when I got involved with the wrong type of people?
