Saving the Monster

Chapter 18

Zorri crouched down, "Kano is that you?"

The trapdoor flew open and the man scrambled out, embracing Zorri warmly. He was scruffy, filthy even. Probably only in his thirties but worn by the relentless heat and wind.

"Zorri, good to see you, what brings you out this way, I thought you were settled In Kijimi now?" Kano said, brushing off his clothes.

"I'm helping out the resistance, we....." Zorri began but Kano interrupted, his eyes wide as they roamed over Rey and the others,

"You guys are resistance?"

"Yes and we need your help" Finn said stepping forwards.

A gust of hot air and the sand began to swirl around Rey's feet. Kano paused, his face set,

"We need to get inside, follow me".

Rey and the others followed Kano underground.  It was hot and the wrappings that Rey wore clung to her skin.  Kano scuttled ahead of Rey, the others behind her, Poe cursing as he smacked his head, Finn laughing, Poe swearing again and then they were turning a corner and stepping into a great underground chamber and that hall was filled with people.

Rey gasped as did her friends.  Easily one hundred people were looking back at them.  All human.  Men, women, even children.

Zorri pulled off her helmet, her eyes wide, "What's this?"

Kano smiled, lifting his arms as he turned from the people to face Zorri, "Resistance members, you're in luck....we've been building our own little resistance right here on Jakku!"
