Saving the Monster

Chapter 28

"Listen up guys, General Leia wants everyone in the main control room ASAP". Finns voice startled Rey from her thoughts and she looked up as he walked towards her table.  Poe and Zorri were already on their feet and the mess hall was emptying out fast.

Finn rested his hand on Rey's shoulder and lent down to her, his voice high with excitement, "Hey, you heard, we've got a spy somewhere in the First Order...Boolio..."

Rey began to stand, "I've heard" she said, trying to keep her tone light.  Finn skipped alongside her as they left the hall,

"Isn't it great?  This means we have a shot, they won't even know what's hit them!" Finn cried, crashing his hands together in front of him.

Rey paused, Finn coming to a stop next to her. His brow furrowed as a smile crept across Rey's face,

"What?" Finn demanded,

Finns tone made Rey's smile widen and a giggle escaped her,

"What's so funny?" Finn said, a smile playing at his lips. It had been a long time since he'd seen Rey laugh and he delighted in it,

"You said exactly what Poe said....they won't even know what's hit them...you're spending waaayy too much time with him!" Rey said between bursts of laughter.

Finn got the joke immediately. Poe was notoriously bad tempered and although Rey and Finn cared a great deal about him, neither wanted to take on his mannerisms, it was something that they often joked about.

Finn puffed up his chest, one hand resting on a cocked hip, "What have you done to my droid? He's one of a kind you know!"

Rey burst out laughing at Finns impromptu impression, it felt good to laugh.

The sound of someone clearing their throat noisily behind them and they turned to find Poe with his arms folded tightly across his chest, "Uh when you're ready, the Generals waiting for you" he said sternly, turning and heading away from them. Finn and Rey exchanged glances, more laughter threatening to come. Poe stopped and turned then, the slightest of smirks on his lips "And just for the record I don't sound like that Finn".

Rey and Finn waited for him to disappear into the trees and then they looked at each other, "He sounds exactly like that!" They both said together as they erupted into fits of laughter again.

When they reached the main control room it was already full and they squeezed in at the back. Commander D'Acy was stood at the front, Leia perched on a stool to her left. "Welcome everyone, thank you for your hard work thus far. I have seen you training and building, flying and researching, but this morning is just the beginning, there's much more to do. We received exciting news today. There is a spy within the First Order"

D'Acy paused and an excited murmur went around the room. She raised her hand, "We have a plan of the entire First Order base on Eadu. We know it all, right down to where they store their laundry!" A hum of laughter went up and Rey's eyes swept the crowd, taking in the sea of new faces. "We will finish our training, we will fix up the ships that we've acquired and then we will strike them whilst they are sleeping, according to the spy, patrols are far and few between at night. We can get in, kill their leaders and get out again, with minimal loss to either people or resources. We can do this, we can snuff them out!" D'Acy's voice rose to a crescendo and the noise from the crowd did too.

Only one person in that room wasn't cheering, and that was Rey.
