Saving the Monster

Chapter 27

After a disgruntled Finn had left, Rey had gone back to reading. A Dyad? Rey had never heard of that term before. She pulled the book closer to her and read, "The pairing of two force sensitive beings making them one within the force. Such beings may share a force bond, connecting their minds across space and time. They have a clear sense of what the other wants and feels".

Rey leant back in her seat. They were a Dyad, her and Kylo Ren. The thought didn't scare her half as much as it should have. The very fact that she was inextricably linked to the First Orders Supreme Leader should have been enough to scare her witless, but it didn't, it didn't at all. Instead Rey found her heart fluttering wildly, if she was linked to him then maybe she could reach the man behind the monster, maybe she could reach Ben Solo.

Rey cleared the Jedi texts, being sure to bookmark the page that she had been reading. She had momentarily wondered if she should share what she had learnt with Leia, before deciding against it for the moment, she would keep what she had learnt to herself for the time being.

She headed to the mess hall, falling into line behind Snap Wexley who nodded his head at her, a man not accustomed to small talk, this was his usual greeting. Rey smiled, nodding her head back at him and then pausing to take her portion of polystarch bread and stew.

Rey slid down onto the bench next to Poe, who acknowledged her with a nod before going back to a heated discussion with Zorri who sat opposite them, her brown hair twisted into a bun on top of her head.

"No, we literally have a whole map" Poe said, his eyes wide, his voice high with excitement,

Zorri straightened in her seat, "Connix got that?  How?"

Poe leant across the table, "A spy.  Apparently there's a spy in the First Order, relayed the information to Boolio, who relayed it to us"

Now it was Zorri's turn to lean forwards, "Who the hells Boolio?"

Poe leant back in his seat, his fingers making a steeple on the table in front of him, " He's a mine overseer at the Sinta Glacier Colony, sometimes helps us out with supplies, he's a good guy, he can be trusted...."

Rey, who had been listening intently, sat forwards, "A map of what?"

Poe swivelled to look at her as if seeing her for the first time, "The new First Order base, we literally have the whole place mapped out, we do this right, they won't even know what's hit them"
