His eyes were as dark and intense as Rey remembered and for a moment they just stood and stared at one another."You're hard to find" he said softly, his deep voice sending shivers down her spine.
Rey shifted her weight and ran her tongue over her dry lips, "Why are you looking for me?"
Kylo breathed deeply, his eyes boring into hers "I know you Rey"
"You don't" Rey hissed, painfully aware that it was true. He did know her, better than anyone and she hated that.
If the harshness of her tone upset him he didn't show it as he stepped closer, his eyes taking a tour of her face. "This isn't the real you. You wanted to join me, you wanted to take my hand when I offered it to you"
"You're wrong, I'm happy here, I'm here with people who care about me, I chose them. I made the right choice." Rey spat back, her hands in fists at her side, hating that she felt the need to justify her decision.
Kylo looked thoughtful, his eyes dropping before they rose to meet hers again and he shook his head, "No one knows you. But I know you Rey"
Something about what he said resonated with Rey and for a moment she considered it. She'd heard those words before from him. It had been him! Last night, the voice she had heard.... she didn't know how he'd done it but it had been him "Stay out of my head" she hissed.
Kylo held out his hand to her, "Join me. I'm the only one who understands you Rey. You have nothing worth staying there for, anyone who coukd have been what you needed, a substitute for your parents is gone. You're alone there, just like I am here. Join me"
Rey narrowed her eyes at him. The way he was talking, his furious attack on the mine at Crait, did he think his mother was dead?
Rey wasn't sure whether to divulge that information. Would it somehow give him some advantage over them?
It was Kylos turn to narrow his eyes at her, clearly confused by her silence. "I will find you Rey and you will join me" he said then as the air around her began to return to normal and their connection faded and Rey was alone again, staring out across the desert.
"Ready to go?"
Finns voice made Rey jump and she turned quickly, blinking hard, trying to settle her pumping heart. She nodded but her breath was shaky as she let it out and Finn stopped to look at her, his face pulled into a concerned frown,
"You ok?"
Rey nodded again, "I'm fine, just thinking" she said softly, managing a little smile at her friend. Finn smiled back just as Poe and Chewbacca caught up with them.
They boarded the Falcon one by one, Rey's mind still on the force bond, still on him. He wanted her to join him, it was the second time he had asked and yet this time had seemed different, this time he hadn't been asking her to rule with him, he'd been asking her to be true to herself, to accept the truth that she wasn't happy.
That thought stayed with her,it bothered her that she wasn't happy, she should be, she knew that. She had everything she'd ever wanted, friends, a sense of belonging, a family almost and a mentor, a teacher who Rey thought of like a mother.
The Falcon lifted into the sky and Rey closed her eyes, she was so tired. As sleep began to creep up on her, her final thought was of him and whether he felt this exhausted.
