𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐧: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭

Betty's POV

My fingers find their way tangled in his hair when...

"Oh, my God!" I whisper yell.

We heard a knock on the door that sadly interrupted our makeout session. "Who is it?" He asks me.

"How should I know?!" I whisper yell again.

I push him away from me a little bit so that I can slip off the counter to put my shirt back on. He grabs his shirt and slips it on.

He runs his finger through his hair to make it look like I didn't just almost tug all his hair out.

I wait in the kitchen while he goes over to the door to answer it. He opens it up and walks out a little bit. "What are you guys doing here?" He asks.

"Who is it?" I quietly call, but just loud enough to where he can hear it.

He turns back to look at me. "It's, um, it's the Serpents."

"What?" I walk over there and look out the door and sure enough...

"Hey, Betty. What are you doing here?" Sweetpea asks me.

"We were... talking about the gauntlet. What are you doing here?"

"We came to get Jones. We're gonna do the gauntlet."

Jughead looks nervous. "Hold on, you're gonna do the gauntlet? Why didn't you ask me? You know you're not allowed to do it without my permission!"

"Well, we thought you knew. I mean, he did the second and third part last night; we just assumed you wanted to do it tonight."

"Sweetpea-"

"Yeah, that's fine. I'll do it tonight," Jughead cuts me off.

"Jones!" I turn around and yell at him.

"No, it's fine. I'll go get changed, guys," Jones says as he walks to his bedroom and closes the door.

"Wait out here," I point at Sweetpea and the other Serpents.

I walk back to Jug's room. I open the door and see him shirtless and in boxers. I gulp. "Jones, you shouldn't do this. You haven't had enough time to mentally prepare-"

"I'll be fine, Betts," he smiles.

"Okay, but I'll be right out there with you if you need me," I sigh.

"Okay."

We are now outside in the pouring rain. Jughead is about to run the gauntlet. I have his Serpent jacket in hand. I'm at the end of the line waiting for him.

"Ready, Jones?" Sweetpea asks him.

He takes in a deep breath, preparing for impact. "Yeah."

And there he goes. He starts the line. At first he's just getting punched in the gut, or kicked in the shins, but once he gets to Sweetpea, I know all hell is about to break loose.
