The bell rang and the students flooded the hallways, running different ways to get to their lockers. The school was closing and now everyone was free for summer. The seniors had one last summer before they had to become adults and they were going to make sure they live to the fullest.

"Can you believe that we're graduating tonight? We're done with high school and we can do whatever we want." Caroline exclaimed as she walked down the hallway.

"I'm just ready to tan," Madelyn said, gripping her backpack as she walked next to Caroline.

"Oh, don't start. You'll get Caroline all riled up on how graduation is more important," Danielle said, smiling and nudging Caroline's shoulder.

"Uh, duh. It's the most important thing right now that we all walk across that stage, get our diplomas, and shake Mr. Lockwood's hand," Caroline said as they got to their locker.

"Right. We still have... six hours until our most important thing, so I think I'll be at the beach for five and a half of them. You coming with me, Danielle?" Madelyn asked. Danielle looked between Caroline, who looked annoyed, and Madelyn, who was convincing with an eyebrow raised.

"I'll probably swing by." She assured, making Madelyn raise her eyebrows at Caroline and Caroline rolled her eyes.

"Dude, I failed that exam," Noah said as he walked through the hall.

"Dude, how? It was the easiest thing I've ever taken," Tyler answered.

"I'm telling you, Ms. Johnson's out to get me. I bet I didn't have the same test as you," Noah said and Tyler chuckled.

"And why would she be out to get you?" Tyler entertained it as they stopped by the three girls standing at their lockers.

"Hey, you two," Madelyn greeted, turning to them.

"Hey." The two boys said, but Noah went back to his long complaint.

"She's always been. She hates me because I play sports and that automatically puts me on her hate list." He complained.

"Hey, where are Ethan and Jason?" Caroline asked, looking around and ignoring the grief of Noah's failed exam.

"Maybe still in the exam," Tyler said, walking toward Madelyn and Danielle.

"Oh, how did your exams go?" Danielle asked, turning to Noah.

"I failed." Noah immediately answered. Danielle's eyes widened and her lips parted. Madelyn snickered and Caroline looked annoyed.

"Mine was good," Tyler said. Caroline closed her locker and looked over at Noah and scoffed.

"How did you fail?" She asked, placing her hand on her hip.

"Ms. Johnson doesn't like me. She's out to get me." Noah confirmed.

"Yeah, she's trying to get you out of here so she doesn't have to see you again," Madelyn informed, causing the rest of the friends to laugh. Noah just narrowed his eyes as a mockery of Madelyn.

"Well, you wouldn't have failed if you studied the flashcards I made for you." Caroline glared at Noah and he smiled at her desire for her friends to do well. He couldn't help the way he looked at her. His eyes always seemed to linger longer than hers. Tyler seemed to find it annoying.

"So are we heading to the beach?" Tyler asked, pulling the attention to himself again.

"This is why we're friends," Madelyn confirmed, fist-bumping Tyler. He was confused but fist-bumped her nonetheless.

"Does graduation matter to any of you people?" Caroline quickly accused, causing everyone's smiles to fade into concern.

"What's her problem?" Noah whispered to Danielle.
