Jackson POV
I tapped my foot continuously as I sat in the waiting room, waiting for Ellie to finish her PET scan. I checked my watch multiple times. I was completely restless.
I looked over at Melissa, purposely avoiding me, a few seats down. She was looking at her phone. I couldn't help but notice at how casually she was reacting to the whole situation.
I cleared my throat. Melissa immediately looked up from her phone.
"Yes?"she said expectantly looking at me.
"Well um, I noticed how casually you are reacting to this situation." I remarked.
I seem to have caught her attention now.
She tucked her phone away into her purse, and looked at me straight in the eye.
"The only reason I am acting so 'casually'," she made air quotations with her fingers on casually.
"Is because unlike you, I have been there for Ellie for the past four years." She continued.
"I'll have you know that while you were off in New York accusing her of spending to much time with me I was the one there for her." I retorted.
People lifted their magazines, and looked up from their phones, and any other activity they were doing to pass the time, to focus on us.
"And? What about all the surgeries, the emergency room visits, holding her hair back while she was throwing up, from the treatment? Huh? What about that?"
"Okay Melissa people are staring, quiet down." I managed to say through gritted teeth.
"Jackson, a one night stand or whatever happened is not being there for her."
"I will tell you one last time, we did not sleep together."
"I highly doubt that." She grabbed her purse and walked out of the room.
"What are you looking at?" I said hastily to the people staring.Twenty minutes later I was standing by Ellie's hospital bed, with blue scrubs on and a mask. I held her hand waiting for her to open her eyes.
Just as I was loosing hope, i saw her eyes slowly open.~Ellie POV~
I expected immediate light to hit my eyes but it was dark in the room, with only sunlight streaming through the windows.
I gasped. Well I tried to at least.
"Jackson." I managed to utter his name.
"Yes it's me princess." He said tears in his eyes.
He bent down to hug me.
"What happened?" I said wearily.
"Its all over now. You don't need to worry."
I wrapped my arms around him one more time, bringing warmth to my body.
I heard someone clear their throat in the doorway. It was Melissa.
"Melissa!" I tried to yell. But it came out like a hoarse whisper.
She slowly walked over with her arms crossed.
"Glad to see you're awake."
I smiled.
"You scared me you know. Real bad." She said, also tears making their way up to her eyes. She blinked one away, and laughed.
"I somehow feel like it's my fault."
"Mel, How could you think that?"
"You don't know what happened." She said now clearly crying.
"Go on." I started to feel uncomfortable.
"The- the machine it was setting off an alarm for quite a while, a-and I totally ignored it, thinking it was something else, and when I looked up you were on your way to a flat line." More tears made their way down her face.
"I'm alright though." I reassured her. I couldn't possibly blame her.
"But you-you could've died!"
Another person cleared their throat. It was a doctor. He had a solemn look on his face. That never meant good.
"I am sorry to interrupt your grieving session." He started to walk over to the hospital bed.
Melissa wiped her tears away, which have left a sticky mascara mess behind on her face.
"But I'm afraid I have bad news."A/N
