Ficlet.

"Ri Jeong Hyeok-ssi."

He groaned. He just returned from his 3 days' work trip to Vienna. He was exhausted. He and his students had stopped at a diner not from home to fil up and now he just really, really wanted to sleep.

Except there was the metaphorical problem of his pregnant wife.

"Ri Jeong Hyeok-ssi."

"Yoon Se Ri."

"I want pancakes."

He groaned again. "Seriously?"

"I know. I know." She said and to her credit, she did sound incredibly apologetic. "But I want pancakes. No. I need pancakes."

He could read between the lines of course and sighed as he tried to get his brain online. These moments didn't happen often, really. He expected it to if he's honest. He had read about the cravings that come with pregnancy and he had expected some seriously wacky combination. But Se Ri has actually been pretty good, plagued with nausea well into her second trimester rather than craving that could also come with a growing fetus.

And then there are moments like this.

When he managed to pry his eyes open, he found her apologetic face looking back at him, a hand rubbing her belly. She said she can feel Butterflake move now, a bit like butterfly wings. He really looking forward to when Butterflake starts kicking, when he would able to feel it. In the meantime, it seemed like he had a job to do.

"Okay, okay." He managed. "Pancakes."

Se Ri sighed softly and got up. It was the kind of a deal they had managed to work out. He would cook her anything she wants at three am, but she is in charge of gathering ingredients. He waited her out, must fell asleep somewhere in the middle because he came to with her hand on his shoulder.

He groaned. "Up. I am up."

It wasn't like she can't cook. He poured the flour, baking soda, and the milk into the bowl. She could probably make this recipe in her sleep by the number of times she had watched him do this, but for all of her ability to use an oven, pancakes are something she couldn't seem to get a handle on. And to be honest, he liked doing little things like this for her, even though he'd rather be curled up in bed.

He burned the first three because he was asleep on his feet, exhausted, barely open his eyes, and still trying to provide for his wife. Se Ri watched him, guilt all over her face. But eventually, he put three perfect pancakes on a plate in front of her, pulled out the syrup, and whipped cream. Because when Se Ri indulged, she didn't do it by halves. He kissed her temple.

"I am going to bed."

She got her hand on his wrist, tugged him in for a more thorough kiss that feels like it could escalate if he had the brainpower. But he was zapped.

"Thank you." She murmured when she let him go.

He also heard the I love you in it too.

He smacked another kiss to the side of her head then all but stumbled into the bedroom. He was out half of a second after he hit the mattress, deep enough asleep that he didn't even hear her come to bed. He woke up in the morning to a clean kitchen and the sweetest note from his wife. He sighed with a smile, thinking for the hundredth time he really didn't actually care how many times Se Ri woke him up for three am cravings.

Everything is worth for their Butterflake.

****

It was short, right? That's why it is called a ficlet.

I miss pregnant and chaotic Se Ri, so I decided to write one.

Comments and votes are deeply appreciated.

I'll be back soon with the second ficlet for the day. See ya~
