~~~~Pidge~~~~Flashback~~~~
I remember when I was younger, before I entered the Galaxy Garrison. Back then, I was one of the smartest kids in school, but I really wanted to join the Garrison with my dad.
He was a Commander there and was amazing at his job.
I sat in the classroom staring at the sky while ships flew away.
"Photons from the visible spectrum are manipulated, creating a quantum storage network. It's most advanced storage network system available." The teacher explained, dragging my attention back towards her.
"Actually, the Galaxy Garrison is performing tests using DNA helixes as storage. That's the same way genetic information is stored in our bodies." I interrupted, proudly stating the new advancements my dad once told me about.
Everyone stayed silent, even the teacher.
"Nerd." One of the kids said, making the other kids laugh at me, and the teacher didn't do anything to stop their ridicule of me.
I just sat there looking down at my desk with tears in my eyes. It's been like that for as long as I could remember, people calling me a need for liking books or exploring space.
When I got home, I immediately went to my room and started studying, but then, I got so angry that I threw my notebook across the room and it slammed against my cabinets.
Just then, I heard my door open, but I didn't look up to see who it was.
"Hey, Pidge?" It was my brother, Matt, calling me that stupid nickname again.
"I hate it when you call me that." I grumbled.
"Sorry, Katie." He apologized closing the door behind him, "Mom told me what happened today."
He placed a plate with a piece of strawberry cake on my desk.
"I know what it's like to be the nerd. But you've gotta keep studying hard."
"What's the point?" I asked.
"Well... it was my brain that got me into the Galaxy Garrison." My eyes widened as I jumped out of my seat with a big smile on my face.
"You got in? Yes!" I shouted happily, jumping up and hugging my older brother.
"I guess it was my brains. Could have been my good looks or my big muscles." Matt joked.
I giggled at his joke releasing him and jumping up and down out of sheer excitement.
"That's amazing! Oh, man! I'm so excited." Suddenly I gasped, then looked around for my notebook. I spotted it near the cabinets so I quickly grabbed it and sat back down.
"What are you doing?" Matt asked.
"Studying. So I can get into the Galaxy Garrison with you and Dad." I answered.
Matt smiled behind me and helped me study all night that day. I was so excited to join him and Dad.
~~~~Flashback end~~~~
I took off my glasses while I sat in my lion, I put on my helmet and looked down my screens to meet Shiro's eyes on one of them.
"Pidge, I don't like the idea of you going alone. You sure you don'tneed backup?" Shiro said.
"I'm sure. Besides, I'm not alone, I've got Saoirse. The intel that shopkeeper gave me leads me to believe they could pull out of their location at any time. I need to act fast. This may be my only chance. Plus, you guys still have plenty to do on Olkarion."
