Fear

You gasped silently as your lungs suddenly felt like they were bound together, and you had to take deep, shuddering breaths as soon as the crowd of people came into view. You could feel yourself beginning to shake, and your nails dug into your palm, breaking the skin, causing blood to ooze out.

You turned your head towards your boyfriend, Grievous, who stood next to you, eyeing the people with suspicious eyes, scaring off some males who wanted to already come near you, sending them all a message that you are his mate!

What was wrong? Well, let me explain.

You suffered under Social Anxiety Disorder, and you could not encounter many people at once without panicking, just as you did now. Grievous was unaware of that, being very wary of people himself, he always was glad when you chose places where no one else would go to, so he had no idea what you had to go through at. Due to his size, he could not see the fear in your eyes when some people turned their heads towards you, greeting you with a respecting nod, fearing that your boyfriend would rip you apart otherwise.

You swallowed nausea in your throat and nodded back, pressing yourself against Grievous to get out of their sight. He looked down at you and put your hand on your shoulder, rubbing it gently. It calmed you a little bit, but not much, because the moment a young woman came over to greet you, you felt your stomach clench, telling you to just get the hell away from that stranger, to return home behind your safe walls with your boyfriend! You fought back your instinct, and you forced a smile, shaking your hand.

It was pure horror.

You felt your muscles beginning to clench, and you felt yourself begin to slip into a panic attack. You needed to get out of here. You needed fresh air, you needed to get away from those people. "E-excuse me.", you wheezed and turned away to walk towards the balcony, breathing a sigh of relief as soon as you saw that it was empty. It was far too cold for the others to go outside, so you were safe...safe from prying eyes. You slowly lowered yourself to the ground, burring your face in your hands as you tried to calm your breathing.

The panic attack slowly calmed, and you felt your shivering decrease, but it still took a few minutes for you to be able to stand up, leaning against the wall for support.

"Y/N?"

You cried out in shock as the voice reached your ears, and you turned around much too fast, almost falling to the ground if not for the strong, metallic arms catching out in just before you collided with the cold, hard ground that would surely have broken your bones. "Grievous.", you huffed and got to your feet again, leaning up to hug him, smiling brightly. "What are you doing here?" He lifted his hand and his claws through your hair before he lowered himself so that he was on eye-level with you. "I came to check on you. You were gone for a pretty long time." You lifted your eyebrow in visible confusion, wondering how long you had sat there.

"I was only gone for a few minutes, wasn't I?" "More like a whole hour." You froze, and you began to sweat, your heart suddenly beating violently. "Fuck."

But before you could push past him, he picked you up and walked over to the chairs that stood on the balcony, putting you down. "Y/N, I sense that there is something wrong with you. And don't say that there is nothing bothering you, because I know you far too well to know that this is not true. You are my mate, my love, and I want to help you."

You turned your head away and looked at the beautiful sky, tears gathering in your eyes. "I can't Grievous. You'll be disgusted.", you whispered. He gave you a half-hearted glare and sat down next to you, wrapping his fingers around your chin, forcing you to look at him. "I will never be disgusted with you. If all, you should be disgusted with me.", he spoke softly, his eyes glowing softly. "So please, tell me what is bothering you."

You sighed and forced the words out of your throat. "I have Social Anxiety Disorder.", you bluntly say, surprising your boyfriend. Normally you wouldn't tell what is wrong, and he always had to find out himself because you did not want to appear weak. You, however, mistake the shock with something else and wanted to stand up, but two strong hands prevented you from doing so. "No Y/N, you stay here.", he hissed softly and pressed you softly against his chest. "Why didn't you tell me this?"

His voice...it was so soft. You were surprised that he was not already yelling at you with all hate he had stored in his scarred soul. "Why should I tell you one of my weaknesses? I didn't want you to hate me! Why do you think I always chose places where it was almost impossible to get to? Because I didn't want to see people. Every time I'm surrounded by people, and I feel like I could throw up all the time. I thought I could pull through it tonight, but I could not...", you had started to scream, but a cold hand on your cheek stopped you. The cyborg's touch has always been gentle, but now, you could barely feel it. It was almost like he was afraid to hurt you more.

"I could never see you as weak. The fact that I never noticed your anxiety shows me again how strong you are. You are more than a fighter, you are a warrior, my love. I know it's hard to admit this, but trust me, there are people who understand, people who could help you, people that could make it go away." He pressed his mask onto your forehead in the form of a kiss and looked deep into your eyes. "Never think you are weak because you are not. You are everything but. You're stronger than everyone else I have ever known."

Those words...tears now finally ran down your cheek, and you leaned against him to sob softly, somehow not ashamed anymore. He was right. "Thank you, Grievous.", you whispered. He chuckled against your hair and patted your back. "Always, my love. Now pack your things, we're going home. I think we have some ice cream that you can eat while we watch a movie."

Somehow you could not help but laugh at his words.
