drawing you (jim and pam)

"okay guys! i need to make a presentation to jan about what do you like in the office and since i'm fun and she isn't, we're going to be playing a game!" michael shouts, after getting everybody's attention by yelling some random words.

jim turn around to look at pam, who was already giggling. michael continues:
"i want you to make a drawing of what you love the most in the office and then i'll make that into a text, or you know, something gooood!"

jim started to think about what he could draw. to be honest, the first (and only) thing that came to his mind, was the receptionist...
would she find it weird if he drew her? she would probably think he meant as friends... since he couldn't think of anything else, he decided to go with that.

pam looked around the office, searching for something to draw. of course her eyes stopped on jim, who was already sketching something. her eyes then fell to her hand. specifically her left hand, that now looked blank, without her engagement ring on. she had broken up with roy about a week ago, but didn't tell anyone in the office. there were a lot of reason to break up with him, but the main one was jim. her feelings for him were too big to be ignored and were stopping her from being happy with roy. she hadn't told jim yet. she wasn't sure what she would do. how do you even tell your best friend that you're in love with him? but jim certainly wouldn't want her. jim deserved so much better than pam! she didn't even know if he could see her as more than a friend. i mean, she was pretty, but not more than average. why would he date an unfunny stupid average looking girl? he could do so much better. since her mind was already focused on him, she began to draw him.

jim looked at his started sketch, then at pam, to compare the two. it was already kind of looking good! he saw that pam had started her drawing too. he looked at her paper, to try to see what she was drawing, but his eyes fell to her hand. her left hand, specifically. he noticed the ring, or rather, the lack of ring on her finger. did pam broke up with roy? jim felt his heart pounding in his chest and a smile formed on his face. he had to ask her about it, maybe at lunchtime. did he finally have a chance to tell pam about his feelings? she probably didn't feel the same way... but maybe it was worth a try?

"okay pencils down! bring me the paaaapers!"

jim looked at his finished sketch and smiled. it did look like pam. of course, she looked more beautiful in real life, but the drawing kind of looked like her.

pam quickly added some details to her sketch before getting up to hand the paper to michael. when she turned around to go back to her desk, she fell face-to-face with jim. she tried to go on one side, but jim moved to the same side as her. they both giggled and pam awkwardly walked back to her desk.

"pfft stanley you just wrote a bunch of dollar sign... and angela why did you draw a cat? do you have a cat at work?"
"i do. why? is it a problem?"
"yes it is! i- ugh whatever. oh look guys! jim and pam both drew each other"

michael took both drawings and showed them to the office. jim thought that pam's drawing was beautiful! way better than his.

pam looked at jim and blushed when she saw he was looking at her too.

"what am i supposed to write to jan if y'all drew people?"
"you can write friendships or something like that" pam says.

these words hurt jim a little bit. she was right, they were friends but he wished they were more than that. reconsidering it, maybe today wasn't a good day to tell pam about his feelings...

at lunchtime, jim and pam sat at their usual table, in the break room. jim started to eat his ham and cheese sandwich, while pam ate a salad. jim got up and walked to the machine, to buy a grape soda. he thought to himself:
'you can do this jim. you can ask her'
