jim looked over to reception. it was valentine's day, and pam was looking so sad. it was already the middle of the afternoon, and she had gotten nothing from her fiancé, while phyllis had gotten like a whole garden.

jim wanted to comfort her, so he dialed dunder mifflin's number. obviously, she picked up, as it was her job.

"dunder mifflin this is pam" pam cheerfully said in the phone, obviously trying to sound happy yet he knew she wasn't.

"dunder mifflin this is jim" jim replied in a surprisingly seductive tone, which made pam smile.

"what's up?" she asked.

"nothing much, just thought you looked a little sad, wanted to cheer you up" jim said, while turning around to look at her.

she was so beautiful today, her hair was even more curly than usual, styled with a red headband.

"that's nice... i'm not sad, just a bit disappointed... it's roy-" pam said.

"of course it's roy" jim mumbled.

"what do you mean, 'of course' it's roy?"pam asked, a little bit offended he would talk about her fiancé like that, though she understood why he did.

"it's always roy, isn't it?" jim said looking at her with his usual 'jim face'.

"it's not- i mean, yeah roy isn't perfect, but what do you want me to do, break up with him?" she asked before chuckling silently.

"that would be a good idea" jim said, looking at her confidently.

"you're kidding me" pam said. she couldn't believe he would so openly suggest her to break up with him. she loved jim, truly, but like a friend or a brother (or at least that's what she told people...)

"i'm not! he didn't even get you a present on valentine's day! i'm sure he didn't prepare anything at all. you know what? i bet he'll say his gift is 'the best sex of your life'" jim said, imitating roy's voice at the end.

pam blushed because she knew it was exactly what would happened, it happened the year before and the year before that, but how did jim know that? she never told him. did he saw through her that easily? well, roy was really predictable. that's what she liked about jim, he was always surprising her, but it was nice surprises, not being surprised by roy going to a bar instead of staying with her, or even cheating on her. he never admitted his infidelity, but she knew.

"how- you're right...what are you doing tonight?" pam said, resting her forehead in her hand.

"you want to hang out with me instead of your fiancé?" jim asked, amused.

"yeah! what about a friend date?" pam asked.

"what about a real date?" jim said, making pam giggle, since she thought he was joking. he wasn't. he wanted to take her out more than anything in the world.

"we could watch movies or go to a restaurant" pam proposed.

"movies" jim replied. it was an opportunity to be alone with her, in his house. "you can come to my house and we'll listen to movies"

"i'll ask roy- no. you know what? i don't need roy's permission! i'm going" pam said, feeling really confident.

"woah fancy new beesly is evolving... come around 7pm, is that alright?" jim said.
