This is a request by @Luna-tzu ! In some Norse Mythology, fairies were the same height as humans, but with magical abilities. I actually enjoyed doing this one! :)

"Mother? Do fairies and trolls exist?" A young boy asks. His mother turns away from her pot, to look at her son. Her smile is warm and genuine. Everything about it is comforting.

"Of course, my little Viking. Trolls and fairies live and thrive in forests and grooves. Odin put them there to protect the beauty of the land." The mother explains, as she kneels to her son's height.

"But if they exist, then how come I never saw one?!" The young boy sasses, as he crosses his arms over his huffed chest. A put hung loosely on his face as he looks at his mother. His mother only giggles at her son's statement.

"Silly boy," She giggles, "You've never seen one, because they live in hiding. They don't want to be seen."

"But mother? Are fairies and trolls shy? They have to be if they fear me!" The boy queries, as he looks at his mother.

"They are only shy around us. Fairies and trolls all hang out with their magical friends." His mother says, before stirring the pot of stew again, "Though, there is a story about a fairy and a powerful Viking falling deeply in love with each other. Would you like to hear it?" Her son nods eagerly, wanting to hear his mother's tale. His mother sits him down at the table, before she serves up the stew, "The story begins in the forests of Sognsvann Lake..."

"How many berries did you snag from the troll's bushes?" Ragnhildr asked, as she peered into her companion's basket. The girl she was with was named (Y/N). Both girls were fairies that lived with their tribe.

"Several! I didn't have enough time to count how many I snagged from that old troll!" (Y/N) laughed, as her friend laughed with her along the lake shore. As the girls walked back to the tribe on the long-twisted paths. When both girls made it back, a male fairy ran up to the two and started to pant heavily.

"Where the Valhalla have you been?! We thought you might have been taken by the humans!!" Asvalder, the male fairy, yelled. Anger leaked from his pores, which made the girl fairies cringe.

"Listen Asvalder! Just because you are the chief's son, doesn't mean you get to yell at us. And there is no need to use the glory of Valhalla in your little, useless fits." Ragnhildr sassed, as she waved the young man away in annoyance. Asvalder's expression twisted into a more furious one, as literal steam came out of his ears.

"Come on guys! There is no need to be so mean to each other." (Y/N) intervened, guarding her friend. Asvalder looked from (Y/N) to Ragnhildr, then back to (Y/N). He sighed at smiled at the intervening girl.

"You know, if we weren't engaged, I wouldn't let your friend live. My sweet river flower~" Asvalder cooed, taking a lock of (Y/N)'s hair and sniffing it. Lust hung heavily in his eyes. (Y/N) nervously laughed before taking the lock of hair away from him. (Y/N) knew he was in love with her, but she didn't feel the same. In fact, she didn't want to get married to any of the other fairies, "Anyhow, I still can't forgive either of you. The Vikings are drawing nearer each day. Toward our territory. Toward our home. Take those berries to the storage house and help the other women prepare for dinner, will you?" Ragnhildr and (Y/N) nodded and went to the cooking area where all the women in the village.

"Where were you two?" A village elder asked, as a small chuckle escaped her lips.

"We were gathering berries elder." (Y/N) explained, before starting to help with the cooking. Unlike most nights, the tribe did not have a large feast. To avoid detection, the tribe wasn't allowed to drink more than one mug of beer and one plate of food. The next morning: 5:23 a.m. to be exact, the Vikings found the little village and demanded to see the tribe leader.
