Chapter 24 / Last chapter

The next day everyone was leaving except Kate and Rick. It was the beginning of the afternoon. They all hugged each other before leaving. Kate wasn't feeling any better ; she went straight back to bed.
Rick walked to the cars with the others.

- "Hold on" said Lanie, walking back to the house "I'll be right back"
She walked upstairs to where Kate was.
- "Hey, what are you still doing here?" Kate asked sitting on the bed
- "Look, you're sick, Rick told me you've been like that for a week now and you're not getting better."
Kate was laying in bed because she wasn't feeling any better. Lanie sat next to her.
- "I'm fine, it's nothing." Kate said
- "I think I know what's going on with you."
- "What do you mean?" Kate asked
Instead of answering her, Lanie opened her bag and took a little paper bag coming from a pharmacy.
- "What is it?" Kate asked
- "Just open it"
Kate opened the bag and took the little box which was in it.
- "A pregnancy test?! I'm not pregnant, I can't be."
- "Sweetie, you have all the symptoms of a pregnancy."
- "I can't be." Said Kate with tears in her eyes
- "Oh, sweetie, don't cry. That's a good thing." Said Lanie taking her in her arms
- "I'm not ready."
- "Yes you are, sweetie, you're more than ready."
Kate look at the pregnancy test and then Lanie.
- "Just do it, I might be wrong." Said Lanie
- "Ok."
- "I have to go, but call me when you do it"
- "I will."

Lanie got back downstairs with the others.
In the mean time, Kate had to run to the bathroom because her nausea was too bad.
Once everyone left Rick came back to the house and to the bedroom where Kate was supposed to be. That's when he heard Kate throwing up. He tried to open the bathroom door but it was locked.

- "Kate, baby, are you okay?" He asked
- "I'm fine."
- "Open the door, sweetie."
- "Give me 5 min."

Rick sat on the bed, waiting for Kate to get out of the bathroom.
Kate was still throwing up. Once she was good, she leaned against the wall and waited a few seconds to be sure she wasn't gonna throw up again. She rinsed her mouth and brushed her teeth. She sat on the edge of the bathtub with the pregnancy test, thinking if Lanie was right or if she was really sick. Her hand were shaking. She wasn't ready to be pregnant again, if she loses a baby again she will die. But she has to do it. Now that Lanie told her she might be pregnant, she realized her symptoms where the same than when she was pregnant a few months ago.
She took a long breath, opened the box and took out the test. She sat on the toilet and peed on it.
The notice said she had to wait 5 minutes. But it was already too much to wait for her.

- "Babe, are you alright?" asked Rick who was worried about her
- "Yes, don't worry."
- "Can I come in?"
- "Rick, just give me 5 minutes, please. I'm fine."

Rick was worried because she hasn't been feeling good for a week and she refused to go to the doctor. He felt helpless face to the situation.
Kate was walking back and forth in the bathroom, holding the test in her hand, shaking from all her body. 2 minutes left. She couldn't wait any longer. She sat on the floor and without realizing it started to cry. She was so scared about being pregnant again. She did want a big family with lots of kids but she wasn't ready yet after what happened. How will rick react? She needed him next to her right now but she had to do it by herself. She needed a few minutes to think, alone, before telling him, if she was really pregnant.

- "Kate, I can hear you crying! Please open the door, let me in."
He heard the lock move and just after that Kate opened the door.
- "Oh babe, what's going on?" He asked, hugging her.
She started to sob.
- "Come on, let's sit on the bed. And tell me what's going on."
- "Rick..."
- "You're not feeling better huh? You have no choice, I'm taking you to the doctor!"
- "Rick... No!"
- "I'm not asking your agreement. Get ready I'm taking you there right now." He said getting up
- "Rick, please, wait." She said grabbing his hand and pulling him back on the bed. "I need to tell you something"
- "What's going on? You're scaring me."
- "I'm... I'm pregnant." She said crying
- "You're what?"
- "We're gonna have a baby." She said staring her hands
- "We're pregnant?! YES!" he said jumping from happiness
- "So you're happy about it?" she asked getting up
- "Of course I am! I'm the happiest man in the world! OMG we're gonna have a baby!" he said caring her in his arms.
She cried even more. She thought he will be angry about it. She thought he didn't want a baby anymore.
- "Oh babe, why are you crying? That's good news don't you agree?" he asked rubbing her cheek
- "I know. I thought you didn't want a baby with me anymore."
- "Of course, I do. I want tons of babies with you. Tons of little you." He said rubbing her stomach
- "I'm not sure if I'm ready. It has been so hard these past few months. What if I lose the baby again?"
- "Kate, don't think about that. Everything will be fine. You'll be an amazing and loving mother, I know that for sure."
- "God, I love you so much!" she said hugging him tight.
- "I love you, you're the love of my life." He said and kissed her.
