I woke up to a shake to my shoulder.
"Lyss, we're here," Joe's voice told my half asleep body.
I groaned rubbing my eyes and running my fingers through my brown hair. Once my eyes finally adjusted to the light I saw a quaint, brick house in front of me. It was gorgeous, actually. The lawn was nicely landscaped and there wasn't a brick out of place.
I unbuckled and got out of the car taking my bag in the process. Joe lead me up to the door and he rang the door bell. About three seconds later a woman answered the door.
"You must be Joe!" She cheered leading us into the house.
When we walked in, the inside was even prettier than the outside. It really had a homie feel. I was lost in my own thoughts when I heard my name come up in the conversation.
"I'm sorry, what did you say?" I asked confused.
She laughed a little holding out her hand, "You must be Alyssa, I'm Katherine. I'll be your foster mom."
I smiled lightly and shook her hand.
"Well let's go get you settled," Katherine clapped her hands together.
"And that means I will have a long drive back to Philly," Joe added.
My stomach dropped, "You're going back?"
"I'm sorry Alyssa, I wish I can stay but I have my job and family to get back to. I'll see you again in the near future. If you need me, Katherine has my number so you can talk to me any time you need, okay?"
I nodded walking up to Joe giving him a tight squeeze. He hugged me back and let go.
"I'll see you soon Lyss," he smiled walking out the door.
I swallowed hard. He was the closest thing I had to a family and he left. At least he's not gone forever; he's just a phone call away.
"C'mon, I'll show you to your room," Katherine lead me up the stairs.
