-Wednesday morning-
I got up, made my bed, checked my reflection, brushed my teeth, got dressed, brushed my hair, and went downstairs. I ate some pancakes and bacon for breakfast. I thanked my mum and grabbed my backpack from the hook in the dining room. I started walking towards the front door, once I got outside I hugged Sarah.
We walked to the bus stop, the bus arrived a few minutes after. We sat in our usual seats again. I told Sarah that Blake and Jake had been on my mind all night and that I didn't know what to do. "Well, who do you like more?" Sarah asked me. "That's the thing, I'm not sure who I like more...Jake no-no! Blake No, wait. See? I just don't know." I stuttered. Sarah made a face that she makes when she's confused. She raised an eyebrow and sometimes, it made me laugh. I don't know why.
Several minutes after talking about who I like more, which is still unknown, we arrived at Oakwood High. I didn't see Blake or Jake when we first arrived. Maybe, they were already in class, or so I thought.
Sarah nudged my arm and pointed over to Blake talking to another girl. I'm pretty sure that girl was Sophie. But, it was kind of hard to tell from the distance we were at. He noticed that we were looking at them talking, and I could hear Blake say "Sorry, I got to go."
Sarah asked me if I was okay. I said 'No.' Blake walked up to me, and said "Grace, it's not what it looks like." and I just ran away. I ran into the school's main building and went into a room. The room was honestly just a closet. I sat down and curled up a little bit. I had no intention of going back out there. Then, Jake randomly came into the closet. He closed the door, behind him and sat down next to me. "Hey, Grace, are you okay?" He asked. "To be honest, No. I'm not," I said. "What's wrong?" "Nothing," I said. I didn't want to bring up Blake and make things even more awkward and different between Jake and I. "Well, that's a lie, I mean you're in a closet," he said. I chuckled. He chuckled too. "Okay, fine. I'll tell you, so there's this guy that I went on a date with, a few days ago. And I just saw him talking with Sophie. I'm not really sure what to say to him now." I said. "Oh, what's this guy's name?" Jake asked. "B-Blake," I stuttered. I wasn't quite sure why Jake had asked what the guy's name was. "Don't worry, listen I promise when you're with me, you're safe. And I'll take good care of you. I promise." He said. I blushed, but it was kind of hard to tell, cause we were in a dark closet. "Jake," I started to say. "Yeah, Grace?" He asked. "How did you know I was in here?" "I was actually looking for you, and then I saw you come in here, so I followed you," He said.
Awww. He was looking for me? But, why?? I mean, look at me, I'm ugly.
"No, you're not ugly at all. Why would you even think that??" Jake said as if he had read my mind. "Wait, did I say that out loud?" I asked. "Yeah, you did." He said. "Oh, I didn't think I did. But I guess I did, Oh no, I did." I said kind of panicking. He put his hand on my shoulder, "Everything is going to be okay. I promise you that" He said while kissing my nose.
I felt so safe and loved.
He wrapped his arms around me. I leaned my head to his shoulder. We just sat there, all cuddled up for several minutes, but it felt like hours. We talked a little bit as well. Then, I realized that I'm still at school. I should probably go to class now. I didn't want to leave, but I knew I had to. I'm already late for class.
"Jake, I'm sorry but I'm late for class. I should probably go." "Okay, no problem. Do you want me to walk you to class?" He asked. "Sure," I said with no hesitation. He stood up first and held down his hand to help me up. Awww, so sweet. "Thanks," I said. "Your welcome, where to?" He said. "Well, my locker first, to grab my textbook and stuff and then off to Precalculus," I said. "Okay," Jake said, still holding my hand. He opened the door, for both of us, and we walked to my locker first. I grabbed my textbook and stuff, and then we started walking to Precalculus. Sarah saw us through the window again, she had a nervous look on her face. I knew I was late for class, and I felt bad. "Thanks, for walking me to class," I said. "Of course," Jake said. I smiled. He smiled back. "Well, I should probably go," I said, as I walked to the door, but before my hand could reach the door handle, Jake kissed me again. I kissed him back. A few seconds later, we stopped.
"I enjoyed that," I smiled. "Same," Jake said. "Bye, Grace see you later" "Okay, bye, Jake," I said. He did his little wave goodbye again, and I took a deep breath and opened the door, I walked in, and Mrs. Harrison looked at me. "Grace, may I talk to you for a minute?" She asked. "Sure," I said. We walked over to her desk. "Students, keep working" She began to say. "Grace, you're 15 minutes late for class, where were you?" Oh, no, busted. "I was in the bathroom," I couldn't think of anything else to say. "But it doesn't usually take an average person 15 minutes to go to the bathroom, now does it?" She said. "Correct, but then I washed my hands for 20 seconds, which is the time you should usually wash your hands, and then since the bathroom was all the way down the hall, I'm not supposed to run in the hallways, so I had to walk there and back in a decent order, and then get my textbook from my locker, and then I came up to the door, but I realized I had forgotten a pencil, and I know that teachers get super annoyed when students don't bring all of their materials to class, so I went back to my locker, and got a pencil, but realized it wasn't sharpened, so I got my pencil sharpener and sharpened my pencil, but I sharpened it too much, that the tip broke, so I had to re-sharpen the same pencil. Then, I came over to the door, and I dropped my textbook so I picked it up, and then I came in, and then you asked if we could talk, and I said 'Sure' and then, now here we are." I said, now out of breath.
"Okay, Okay. I understand. But, you were still 15 minutes late. So, that's a detention." She said. "Mrs, Harrison. Please." I'm sorry, Grace. Rules are Rules, I don't make the rules." She said. "Okay, fine," I said. "Just please take your seat now, I have a class to teach," She said. I nodded my head and walked over to my desk, which was next to Sarah. "What happened?" She asked. I could only think of one word to describe what had just happened. "Detention," I said. "No, no, no," Sarah said. "What??" I asked. "We were supposed to hang out today after school. "Oh, right! I'm sorry, Sarah." I said.
The class soon was over, the bell rang, and the classroom was almost empty. Sarah, and I were the only ones left in the room. Then, I saw Blake come into the room, I stared at the floor. "Grace, please. I didn't do anything. I don't like Sophie like that," Blake said. Sarah was secretly listening while grabbing her stuff from out of her desk. "Okay, but why would I mind, if we're not dating, are we?" I said. "I'm not sure, right now," He said. "Do you want to hang out after school?" I asked him. "I would love to. But, I can't. I got detention," He said. "Oh, right! I forgot, so do I." I said. "Really?" he asked. "Yeah," "Okay, well I got to get to my next class, but I'll see you in detention" He laughed. I laughed too.
He walked out of the room, Sarah and I grabbed our things and went to our lockers, we're so lucky to be locker neighbors. Jake stopped by my locker, and said: "I got detention." "You did?" I asked. "Yeah, cause of being late to class," "Same, I got detention too," Sarah nudged my arm. Which meant that she needed to talk to me. "Sorry, Jake I got to go to my next class, I don't want to be late again," I said. "Yeah, I get that now." We laughed a little. "Ok, bye Grace," He said. "Bye, Jake," I said back and waved goodbye.
Sarah and I started walking to our next class, and she seemed confused. "Grace, you have a problem," She said. "What is it?" I asked. "Blake and Jake are both in detention at the same exact time you are!" She said. "Oh no, what do I do??" I started to panic. "I'm not sure, I mean, two boys that kissed me, are in the same detention as me, in...a few hours!" I said. "Grace, just calm down. It's going to be okay. Detention won't last that long." Sarah said, and I knew she was right. I breathed normally again. And regained my confidence.
But, the rest of the school day I couldn't stop thinking 'What would happen if they met?'
