The path Mya had taken wasn't clear, it was littered with inflexible, dry, overgrown grass that reached to her knees. She marvelled at the uneven ground underneath her long strides, and as the bottom of her shoe hit the floor, the grass would crunch with it, disturbing the life surrounding it.
Mya spun round on her heels, making her mark deeper into the cracked mud.
"I'm not as fast as I used to be sweetie" a female voice echoed off the line of trees in front of the girl, she shot her head round and a smile rippled on her lips.
"I'll drag you if I have to" Mya giggled to herself as she bounded back up the slope to the woman's voice. A retired sigh left her lips as the two girls met in the middle.
"You-" the woman lifted up her not so young hand and gently cupped the girls cheek. Soft wrinkles creasing at her blue eyes when she smiled a familiar grin.
"Are just like your father" her light brown hair flicked behind her, revealing undertones of grey showing her older age. The women looked almost identical, age separating them. The young girl grasped the hand on her face and pushed it aside.
"Is that a good thing?" she huffed, tilting her head to the side, making her loose curls flip in front of her eyes, blocking the view. The older woman delicately moved the girls chaotic hair and tucked it behind her ear.
"He would say it is"
"I on the other hand, don't like the cheeky behaviour so pack it in" the older woman poked her in the chest playfully, taking her unaware so she stumbled on her feet.
"Mom" Mya tried to sound stern but failed miserably as usual making her mother chuckle.
Mya preferred having her dads traits, his wits, sense of humour, compassion- but she hated having her mothers stubbornness.
From stories she heard, her mother was always quick on her feet when she was younger, always keeping her dad on the move- always surprising everyone.
But now, not so much.
Her parents were deeply in love, though no one would ever tell Mya how they met, which she thought was ridiculous.
As far as family went, she only had her mom and dad- and the droid her father insisted was a part of the small family. With no siblings, she didn't really have anyone growing up. She was always tucked out of the way, hidden like some sort of forbidden treasure.
And whenever she asked why it was always the same answer.
"You'll know when the time comes"
Every time she heard that, her eyes would disappear into the back of her head, like she was looking for the will to even care in the back of her mind.
