"I know, I just got a bad feeling about this"
"There's nothing to worry about" I giggled to reassure him.

͙ ͙⁺˚*・༓☾ sand isn't the best.. ☽༓・*˚⁺‧͙Upon landing you were greeted by an ocean of sand, nothing but dry, grainy rocks and dust flicking in our eyelines.
"How do plants grow on a desert?" I side whispered up to Laurence who seemed less tense than before. He shrugged nonchalantly and scoffed out a brief laugh before walking to the semi circle of pilots to the side of us.
Like others, I wrapped an old piece of fabric over my nose and mouth to prevent sand getting into my airways and scraping at my insides.
"Re-assemble here at 0900" Vella commanded, standing in the middle of us all, addressing us with her eyes, closely interpreting our faces and picking at our nerves.
People dropped out in pairs, with instinct I went to Laurence's side.
"Mechanic, stay here" the strong voice of our commander snapped behind me. Slowly, I turned on my heels, twisting the sand underneath me, teeth gritting as I stepped forward to be with her.
"She has a name and-" Laur stepped ahead of me hesitantly, the white of his eyes flashing with worry.
"With all due respect, she has a good eye," he finished quickly, giving me a small smile of pride as he looked down at me. He looked back to Vella before talking.
"She'd be useful" he held his hand on my back for support, I found myself helplessly beaming at my friend, backing me up like always.
"Do not test me young pilot" she spat back like poison, seething in her eyes, Laur was testing her patience and he wasn't backing down. She took a dangerous step forward and poked her finger into his chest.
"You have nothing on me"
Vella stepped back and looked around us, the other pairs out in the distance, her face scrunched into a defeated sigh, she groaned in annoyance and her hands flopped to her side.
"The mechanic can go with you" Laurence and I exchanged an excited grin and turned away before she would change her mind.
"And Dameron-"
"Yes Commander?" I shot back round to face her voice, and she stood still, mouth agape ready to speak but nothing came out. Vella flapped her hand away and shook her head.
"Nothing, be on your way"
Without a moment to lose, Laur and I left the scene side by side. The cruel sun beat down above us, drenching us in heat, teasing the sweat from our pores. The occasional breeze acted like a blessing, a brief moment of cool before the on slaughter of warmth.
