Leia's crinkled eyes met mine.

"The transmission is from our Black Squadron."

In the grip of a silent panic my hand flung over my mouth, suppressing the erratic cry that scratched at my throat, beckoning and aching for me to let it free.

Without a second, Anj was at my side, wrapping her arms around me as I slowly sunk into my own mindset. The worst scenarios dominated my mind, treacherously crawling through my nerves and picking at my head.

I couldn't concentrate on my buzzing surroundings, only seeing blurred figures rush past or turn around.

The arguments in my head overthrew each other, sweat starting to form a sticky layer Ofer my forehead.

My body threatened to wrack with raw, irrational sobs and fright slowly consumed every cell in my body.

"It'll be okay, they're okay..." Anja's hushed tone came at my side, her slender finger curling a hair out my face, restraining it from sticking to the humid and damp sweat.

"They'll be okay" she tried desperately one more time, my fingers subconsciously went to my mouth and I bit onto the dry skin around my nails.

Her hand wrapped over mine calmly and she lowered my trembling hand away from my face, not taking it out of hers as we continued to listen to Leia.

"We are working on sending our new and upcoming Grey Squadron," she announced and I felt Anj stiffen up beside me- that was her squad that was being put on the line- and possibly her life.

"And a few of our valued technicians" she looked at me directly when she said that, both of us knowing that I wanted to be on that mission.

But Leia didn't look as confident as I.

Maybe it was the wrinkles that folded around her eyes or the creases that lay on her forehead but I couldn't read her face.

"I will meet with them now so can the Grey Squad and the following technicians please step forward" she looked down at her note pad string at her side and frowned.

"Randyl and Mason please step forward for the technician roll" to this, two young men stepped forward. I didn't recognise them. One towered over the other and their striking orange hair stood proudly in a mop. The shorter one was a young boy- younger than me perhaps. Dark hair with fair skin.

And he looked afraid.

"You're all dismissed" Leia finished calmly, everyone slowly starting to file out, Anj stuck at my side until everyone was gone. No doubt it would make her late to the meeting.

"I guess I'll see you when we come back" she turned and looked down at me, eyes glimmering with the sheen of distant fear. Her confidence in her abilities was a good excuse, she was an amazing pilot but the fear of not returning was also apparent

"No you won't"

"What!?" She spun away from the door and her face was struck with confusion and shock, her mouth lay agape and wide, wanting to feed on my explanation.

"I'm coming with you," I shrugged nonchalantly, pushing past to head towards the meeting room. Anj caught onto my plan and shot to my side.

"Uhh, no you're not Mya." She clasped onto my shoulders and spun me round to face her, securing and locking me in her harsh grip.
