Took a deep breath and tilted my head to the grey sky.

Ready.

The sky was blanketed in thick, red clouds. The ground started shaking as veins split along the landscape; forced apart but the brutal shaking underneath.

The ground I knelt on was close to crumbling.

I finally opened my eyes and squinted to look around at the chaos around me. The sky darkening rapidly- with each blink the damage got worse.

My comm was rapidly beeping and shaking on the floor from the rocks and people talking. Inaudible shouting couldn't be heard over the growling of the planet ripping itself apart under my feet.

I was still ready.

But I was alone.

It was never really how I thought my life would end but there I was. On the floor, the world crumbling at my feet, my sacrifice saving someone else.

I was still alone.

I was on all fours for stability and I gripped onto the cracked rock underneath me, ignoring the sharp stones piercing my skin, sending thick, hot blood to trickle down my arm.

I grunted against the force of the planet and dragged myself to the comm that I originally threw on the floor. When it was in reach, I leant our my shaking hand and with a heave pulled it over my ears.

It blocked out the noise.

But I could now hear the screaming and shouting of my parents. They were shouting at something, someone.

The chorus of arguing filled my ears like an out of tune symphony, the kind you could never block out even if you wanted.

"Do not, I repeat do not do it" my mother voice came in clearer than any of the shouting.

"I have to" a girls voice answered, sounding monotonous and dead. No ounce of feelings.

"Grey 7 listen to me you will not make it out" that was my dad, deep voice overpowering everyone. He was doing his job, protecting his team.

"Commander Dameron is right" someone barely unrecognisable piped in.

"Grey 7 this is your last warning" my father growled, I couldn't tell if it was fear or anger that someone was going against his orders.
