i want angst so i write angst
In a world where your Soulmate dies, you do too.
Stella stared at the bloodied face of her Ghoul friend, Justina. The two were fighting against Dove soldiers, somehow managing to outsmart a group of them while they were low on energy.
Justina was sweating, and she spat out blood, hissing as more metallic taste filled her mouth. "Where's Kaneki? He should've been here by now.." she muttered, peeking out through the building's window.
Her eyes widened, much like an owl's, and she felt her heart sink. "Oh. Fuck."
"What? What happened?"
"I don't think you want to see this, my guy.."
Stella shook her head, walking over to the window to look through.
Kaneki was walking through the snowy area, carrying a bloody, dying Hide in his arms.
Stella felt her heart shatter, and she punched the glass, screaming as it broke. She ran through, getting cut up in the process, but too fueled by horror adrenaline to care.
"HIDE!"
The bicolored-haired boy weakly opened his eyes to try and find the source of the voice, but they were dull. It was like he was drowning. He could only hear the muffled shout of his name through the static.
Kaneki stopped, refusing to say a word as Stella leaned down to see Hide up close.
"Hide.. I'm so sorry..! You shouldn't have been caught up in this.."
Kaneki shook his head, "He.. he was a part of the Doves. He worked for them. I didn't know, I.."
"It's.. okay, Ken."
Hide's weak voice broke through the frigid air, small clouds appearing as he spoke — his voice was raspy.
Stella gasped softly, leaning down to cup his face in her hands.
"Are.. are you alright?"
"Hah.. you always worry.... about everyone.. but yourself... have some self preservation, Stel.." Hide smiled, though it was strained.
He coughed, a bit of blood coming from his mouth.
"Well, that's.. probably not good..."
"Ken, can't we take him to a hospital??" Justina interjected, approaching from behind Stella. "I could carry him! I've got wings, after all!"
Hide shook his head once more, lifting a hand slowly to silence her.
"I.. I knew what would happen to me. I accept it.."
Stella felt tears well up in her eyes, her heart tightening painfully, "Hide, don't say things like that.."
Justina rested a hand on Stella's shoulder, "There has to be something we can do to help him, Ken. Come on, give him to me and I can-"
"..stop.."
"-get him somewhere safe. He doesn't have to die! We can't let him-"
"I said stop..!"
Justina went silent, looking down at Hide after hearing his soft protests.
"I.. I don't mind going peacefully.. There's just a lot of things I left unsaid, and... and I regret it, hah.."
Hide laughed gently, his voice breaking a bit as tears appeared in his own eyes.
"Stella, I... I always knew you were a Ghoul.." he mumbled, leaning his head up to press his forehead against hers.
Stella's eyes widened like Justina's, and she stared at him, "What..? But I.. I tried to hide it-!"
"I know you did... that's why I never.. told you I knew.. But.. there was another thing I never got to say to you.."
"Then tell me, Hide.."
"I love you.. so much more than you could ever understand.."
"Hide, I.."
"You're always so.. passionate... I love everything about you, especially that.." he smiled, a light blush appearing on his bloodied cheeks.
Stella let her tears fall, a few dripping onto Hide's own tear-stained skin.
"H-Hide, please don't leave me.. I-I can't handle it if you go.. I love you too much.."
He shook his head a final time, lifting his hand again to cup her face this time.
"You have.. no clue... how long I waited to hear that.."
He smiled, letting his last breath out as he said his final words;
"I'll see you again."
And with those four words, Stella's world collapsed around her. She couldn't hear Kaneki and Justina screaming at her to wake up. All she heard was muffled shouts, much like Hide did.
Because she lost her Soulmate, Stella ended up losing herself as well.
