Part 3

Days turned to weeks. And weeks into months. The time for war was slowly coming. But it still would be awhile. Both Nohr and Hoshido after all, would need time to prepare if they were to engage into a bloody war.

Kaze was treading down a dirt path in Nohr’s deep realm, and as he was passing by the Mess Hall… he overheard talking.

Kaze swiftly stops his steps and leans against the other side of the building’s wall to eavesdrop and listen to what was happening ahead by the entrance.

“It’s just… I don’t trust him. Corrin, Camilla, and Elise are just too naive and trusting. His homeland is the country of Hoshido. His loyalty lies with them; he’s going to turn traitor and kill my sisters to turn the tide of the war before it even begins! And I cannot allow it…”

Leo, Corrin, Elise, Camilla, and Xanders brother who is also royalty, second heir to the throne after Xander, spoke his worries to the sly but cunning retainer of his, Niles.

Leo would be telling Odin of these things as well, but he was too busy being court martialed elsewhere. So Leo will tell him later…

“I understand your distress clearly, lord Leo. Of course you would suspect someone originally from our enemie’s plains who claim loyalty to our own, to be traitorous. It’s completely normal to think such speculations. And they are likely true, especially if he has been raised at Hoshido his whole life. But killing him might be a little tricky, seeing how often he is seen around his lord, your sister, Corrin. And not only that, but ninja’s are swift and cunning. We cannot screw this up. I am aware of this. I will end him at the right timing; no need to get Odin into this mess. I will be more than willing to let the blood be on my hands alone. I won’t let Odin suffer this burden, if you are ok with this.” Niles kneels down on one knee before his lord, pledging to wipe out the threat.

“...Are you sure?” Asked Leo a little hesitant. All in the sudden he feels like it is wrong of him to be pushing not only his troubles, but what should be his duty on his own royal retainer.

“As sure as I’ll ever be, Lord Leo.” Niles lowered head rises from the ground to meet Leo’s eyes before giving a slick smile.

“Okay… just… don’t die.”

“I won’t.”

They… they want to kill me.

Kaze, having eavesdropped, knows what this whole plot was about; the royal Leo, along with his retainer, is having suspicious ideas of him. They think that he will turn traitor and attempt to kill the royal family for the glory of Nohr.

But as wrong as they are with this speculation, Kaze did not blame them for getting such ideas. In a matter in fact, it is wise to always be alert and thoughtful as to who your enemies are.

If you don’t even try to suspect even a few traitors among your army, in a blink of an eye, you will be faced with your own ignorance with shame.

I… I have to warn Lady Corrin!

Kaze was just about to dart off in search of his master, but then stopped when he realized how foolish of an idea that was.

Corrin was already burdened with so much right now. And telling her how her brother and retainer was plotting to murder him… that wouldn’t help.

So to avoid this coming to be, Kaze will have to act as a shadow, hard to find. And he must stay by his leige’s side as often as possible.

Because as long as Kaze stays well hidden from his enemies… as long as he stays by Corrin’s side… nobody will be able to lay so much of a finger on him, no matter the reasoning.
