They were nearing the border of Para. They had just a few hours left to drive. Mason and Gideon didn't talk most of the road. But now, they were arguing.
"So you're saying that you killed your way through the country. Without a feeling of remorse. I get that killing bad people is kind of alright but...everyone you meet? Sounds more like a psychotic murderer." Said Gideon as he drove calmly.
"If you've been there as long as I have, you'd understand. But instead, you hide in your city with walls covering it. Meanwhile we sleep with one eye open as the cold breeze crushes against our skin every night not knowing if we'll survive or not. You don't know the true meaning of survival. We do everything we need to do to survive. You get helped around because you're a war hero, not because you're a survivor. So don't give me that murderer or killer bullshit. You can't expect us to be decent people in an indecent time. We only ever do what needs to be done." Said Mason in a serious tone as he got tired of being judged around.
Gideon scoffed unimpressed by Mason's claims. He believed that there is always a choice. And with that choice, luck decides if your desicion was worth it or not.
They were reaching Bernhart, Mason's former hometown. It was covered in corpses and bodybags that were supposed to be burned. They kept on driving and passed the street where Mason once lived. Mason didn't say anything as he saw no reason why Gideon would want to know that he lived there.
They passed Bernhart and there was still an awkward silence in the car. It's like 2 complete strangers were sitting in the car. Which technically is the case. Mason had absolutely no intention of breaking the silence. But it seems that Gideon didn't like it. He tried to start a conversation again but Mason didn't reply to any of his attempts.
Meanwhile, Adalia and Enzo were outside the military camp. They had to look around aimlessly around the city for clues. And Adalia wasn't the patient type. She kept complaining and cursing and Enzo just had to listen to every single word. The city was mostly clear. Whatever zombies lay hidden, there weren't much.
"You know...perhaps we just look around in the obvious places. Where do you think they would hide it?" Asked Enzo.
Adalia looked at him in a threatening way.
"Do you really think I'd walk around here if I knew?!?" Asked Adalia.
"Relax lady, I was just...asking a question, sheesh." Said Enzo.
Adalia's orders were to remain in the military base and wait for further instructions. Clearly she wasn't following those as she was outside the center. Adalia and Enzo passed Jimmy's store and no one was there. Adalia quickly ran to the store and called out for Jimmy.
"What are you doing?!? You'll get us killed!!" Said Enzo as he wasn't armed. Adalia took his weapons as she felt safer that way. But now things weren't going to plan as much. Enzo went over to Adalia and tried to calm her down but she pushed him away as she busted the windows.
She went inside and didn't see Jimmy or a member of his family. Enzo came in too and looked around cautiously as he got freaked out about Adalia. Adalia went upstairs and saw the corpses. She immediately went to them and saw that they were shot, stabbed and some of their body parts were cut down.
