Hours go by like minutes and days even further like seconds. Time didn't feel right and everything around would feel lifeless and cold. Hoping felt like sinning and killing felt justified. Every bone that was ever broken and every life that was ever taken, felt meaningless.
Rarely would you find a poor soul not ready to take a life for their life. Bullets, knifes and fists shed the ultimate blood that falls on this once sacred and prosperous land. Everywhere you'd look felt ruined and out of place, like there's no future to look forward to.
Lies, mischief and death breath through the days of the present. Greed, hunger and thirst scourge the inhabitants and everything else within. Each one dying with no sudden meaning but rather the greed, hate and anger that befalls their killer.
Such cruelty is hard to imagine when everything's seems okay...for now.
The anger that befalled Gideon wasn't sudden. He felt this way before but now it feels justified considering what he's just seen. Years of service, all to be betrayed and lied to in the end. His punches bursted with furious anger as he kept punching the tree near him. It's been going on for a few minutes and Mason didn't know what he had to do. All of it felt like the same nightmare but different monsters.
"You know...punching that tree won't change anything. You'll just injure yourself and eventually die because you couldn't let a few facts sit in. Those zombies out there don't give a shit about what you're feeling." Said Mason as he sat on one of the old stoneblocks, hoping to talk Gideon out of whatever he thinks he's doing.
After a few last punches, Gideon looked at Mason and breathed in and out fast because he was tired. He sat down on the muddy ground and looked down disappointed.
"I...I never thought I'd see this. Manipulated lives. Wars. Hell even those didn't feel right. I guess I know why now." Said Gideon as he wiped the sweat of his head.
"In some way, I think I know how you feel. But not entirely." Said Mason.
"How would you know how I feel? You're barely a man." Said Gideon.
"You confuse the word adult with man. You become an adult when you reach a certain age. You become a man when you pass the certain gage. I did or atleast...I think I did. But I know that if I didn't, I wouldn't be here." Said Mason.
Gideon looked at Mason in a way of disbelief as he valued him...middlingly. Mason didn't value Gideon one bit as a companion and would like the situation to change. But he makes sure that Gideon doesn't get that feeling and uses small talk to come out as a more open book and avoid unnecessary conflict.
Mason saw that Gideon was worried on how to get back and remembered the truck he and Enzo used to come here. But he wanted to keep Gideon in the suspense a bit before they'd go.
"How many bullets are left?" Asked Mason as he saw Gideon with the pistol in his hands.
"I got 3 bullets and 1 other round left. That's all we got." Said Gideon.
"Well good. That's all we need." Said Mason.
"For what? I don't see another way out of this. Unless you got something up your sleeve that is." Said Gideon.
"Hmph...you have no idea." Said Mason as he smiled.
"Spit it out kid. We're sitting ducks here." Said Gideon.
