Dreaming And Thinking

Hours went by after the events of the Fort. The Red Raiders were still clueless about what to do with the Devolving Agent. Maddox went over to the self made and temporary laboratory with Red to see if his men came up with something.

They opened the door and saw that all of his men were brainstorming on what to do with it. They had to take risks sooner or later but Maddox insisted on playing it safe for now. They had to test it with their own men to see how their bodies reacted to it.

Based on Maddox's information, the Devolving Agent would create a bioweapon inside the host and any type of Trunibal Virus cells would be destroyed if detected. This would prevent the bitten to get infected and turn into a zombie. But this information was taken by one of the Marines and it was a matter of life and death. Should Maddox trust the words of a dying Marine or should they keep on studying it to see what it can and won't do?

Time was running out and a decision had to be made.

"So what do we got?" Asked Maddox as he leaned on the table and looked at the bottle containing the Devolving Agent. His men with medical and chemical expertise came over and said that there was still nothing they could do.

"Better yet, we can't even find out if it'll work or not. The best way to do this is if we grab one of the zombies outside and test it on them." Said one of the Red Raiders.

Red looked at Maddox, waiting for his response. Maddox seemed to be under immense pressure for making the right decision. If things turn out to get worse, he would be to blame. So he took his time and had to think of every possibility.

"We don't need to rush on this boss. This can be humanity's last gift. Our last hope. The Marines.....they don't care about us or the world. Which is why we can change it. Don't be too hard on yourself. We can all fix this." Said one of the Red Raiders at the table comforting his leader.

"Exactly the problem. What if this doesn't even fix everything. What if it makes no difference to what we have now. A new beginning seems to be quite a stretch if I'm being honest. 2 whole years of surviving and killing. A new beginning doesn't seem realistic at all." Said Maddox, pointing out his doubts about the Devolving Agent.

They looked at each other and thought about what to do. Moments later, Maddox finally had his decision.

"Two groups. One group is for the capturing of one zombie. The other...guard the one person that's going to be injected with the Devolving Agent. Clear?" Asked Maddox. The others did what he said but one of his experts asked "What about replicating it? We won't have enough to go further."

"I'll worry about that. You worry about what I told you to do." Said Maddox.

Two groups were made and were ready to carry out their tasks. One of the Red Raiders was brought in as a test subject forcefully. He was brought into an isolated room and waited for the zombie to be brought in. He kept kicking and punching the door and begged to be released. Maddox sat on a chair and waited for his other group to arrive with a zombified test subject.

Meanwhile, Gideon and Luka were busy applying some new equipment to the house such as the Electricity Motor and a Small Water Purifying machine. Adalia helped too but not as frequent as Gideon. Mason was on top of one of the buildings and sat on the edge while he looked at Lexi's glasses.

He kept wiping it clean till it looked new again. The dust cleared off perfectly as he blew it away. He looked in the distance of the short trees as the sun was slowly going down. It reminded him of the old days where everything was much more...normal.
