Virgil flinched every time a firework went of but Patton was staring in awe.
"Why do humans have to celebrate every year by blowing things up?!" Patton turned to his friend.
"I don't know but it's really pretty! You should look!" Virgil opened his eyes and saw one as it exploded. He still flinched but Patton was right, they were really pretty.. The two sat and looked out the humans window. This house was close to the firework display the town had so they could see tons of beautiful fireworks. Virgil was usually really cautious but the fireworks had him mesmerized. Unfortunately, this left him unaware when the human that lived there came out of his room. Virgil and Patton yelped as the we're both scooped up and held up to the humans face.
"What are you..?" Virgil was trembling but Patton just stared, frozen. Virgil felt as if the human's gaze could cut through them.
"I- W-Were.. not real, j-just put us down a-and go watch the f-f-fireworks..." The human stared for a moment then set them back down on the windowsill.
Virgil stumbled backwards. Did that actually work?!
"You're definitely real," Nope. "But if you'd like to go I won't stop you." Virgil took another step back but Patton stayed there and turned to the fireworks.
"P-Patton.." He whispered, "Lets go before he changes his mind!" Patton turned to him.
"But.. the fireworks... We've never been able to see them up this close!"
"You've never seem the fireworks before? The town has a show every year." Virgil spun to look back at the human.
"W-well.. w-we usually arent cl-close enough..." Virgil backed up towards Patton.
"You seem extremely nervous, I won't hurt you." Virgil stared for a moment. The humans reassurance didn't do much... He looked back to Patton. He was still watching the fireworks. Virgil knew he couldn't get Patton to leave and he didn't want to leave Patton... He turned back to the human.
"I-if you do.. just don't hurt Patton..." He sat next to his friend and continued to watch the fireworks with him.
After they were done he was honestly surprised the human hadn't done anything. After a moment the human had just left them there to watch the show by themselves. Patton turned to Virgil, his eyes looked like they had stars in them.
"That was amazing!!" Virgil nodded.
"Yeah.. can we go back in the wall now?" He looked around for any signs of the human. Patton nodded and stood up, he held his hand out to help Virgil up. They both headed back to the wall. Virgil looked back again, he wondered why the human had let them go.
"Do we have any food? We forgot to get some when we left cause of the fireworks.." Virgil shook his head.
"No we don't.. you can go back, I'll get the food."
Patton nodded and headed through the wall as Virgil came back out again.
He was on edge because of the human and he didn't want Patton out there in case he'd get hurt. He climbed down from the window and stuck close to the wall. He snuck into the kitchen and saw the human at the table working on their computer. They were facing the other way so Virgil thought that he'd be fine. He climbed up the counter and slipped into the cupboard. He found a thing of peanuts and took a few. He peeked his head out of the cupboard. The human was still sitting there, just working. He slipped out again and got down the counter. He was about to continue when the human stood up. He ran and hid against the side of the counter. He tried to stay silent and out of sight but he yelped as the human walked next to him. They stopped and Virgil tried to back away. He gasped as the human crouched down to look at him.
"Oh, hello again." Virgil stared. Would they be mad at him for taking the peanuts?? The human cocked their head to the side. "How did you get those? Did you climb up and into the cupboard? That's pretty impressive.." Virgil almost gasped. The human wasn't mad at him for taking food? Virgil's throat felt dry as the continued sitting there in silence, he could tell the human was studying him. Virgil shifted and looked to the side. Could he try to leave? "If you want to leave, go ahead. Once again, I'm won't try to keep you here." Virgil glanced at him before stepping to the side. They didn't make any attempt to stop him so he stopped and tilted his head.
"W-why would you l-let me go.. a-a-again." The human's eyes widened.
"Well you're.." He paused and looked Virgil over again. "You're like a human except.. tiny.. I don't see why I shouldn't let you go other than to- Nevermind. If you want to leave, go ahead." Virgil paused for a moment longer.
"Th- thank you.." And with that, Virgil took off and ran to one of the entrances into the wall.
