(Btw, I'm not educated in what would be triggering or not so if you think I need to add a trigger warning for something just tell me and I'll add it)
He shouldn't have looked back, he tried to continue walking but his feet were stuck. He looked down and saw a sticky trap for mice.
"No.. no no no, this has to be a dream! I can't believe I'm stuck in a mouse trap! I-" Thoughts kept running through his mind of what would happen when the human found him. He tried to move his feet but they wouldn't unstick. He couldn't get caught! What if the human killed him... He cursed at himself for being so stupid. He looked around. There was no way out. His pin wouldn't do any good and it wasn't like he could move the trap to his home. Either way he'd probably get caught if he walked around with it for the rest of his life. He realized there was nothing he could do. He threw the cracker to the side and sat in the trap. It's not like it'd put him into anymore trouble then he was already in. He put his arms around his legs and put his head in his knees. His chest began feeling heavier and heavier. He needed to calm down, he couldn't have another panic attack. Somewhere along the lines he ended up falling asleep.
The next day he woke up to the human's foot steps beside him. He stopped himself from freaking out again, he didn't want to make any noise. Despite how hard he tried to stay hidden, the human ended up looking under the couch. He was probably checking to see if it caught a mouse. Virgil gasped as the human's hand came to pick the trap up.
"You aren't a mouse.." the human muttered.
"Yeah no shit Sherlock" Virgil dare not say anything aloud though, in fear of how the human would react. He heard the human mutter tons of questions, eventually leading up to ones that scared him. Some about his immune system and what kind of sicknesses he could get. Virgil stared at the human with wide eyes. He wouldn't try to find the answer to those questions... would he? Virgil couldn't handle being sick, his immune system was horrible and there isn't any kinds of medicine for people as small as him. Last time he got sick he'd almost died. There weren't even remotely happy memories from that, luckily, at the time he had a friend who'd taken care of him.
When the human noticed Virgil's distressed look, he seemed a bit confused.
"Can you understand me??" Virgil didn't answer at all. No nodding or shaking, no words. The human pushed the thought away.
"You're probably just scared of my size then.. but even if you can't understand me I hope you know I won't try to hurt you.." His words gave Virgil very little reassurance. The human took him over to his room and set him in a little bird cage after wiping dust off it and getting him out of the trap. Virgil knew it was a bird cage as the first day he moved in here was the day before the bird had passed.. He shivered, hoping he wouldn't also die here.
It had been about two months and luckily nothing had happened to him... yet... The human got him cloth as a blanket and would give him food. While he never went hungry or thirsty, he still hated being treated like a pet. Other than that though, Virgil had warmed up to the human quite a bit. He seemed a lot nicer now that Virgil didn't only see him when he was fearing his life or staring from the vents.
One day Virgil had enough of feeling like a pet and when the human went to give him a grape he piped up saying, "You know I'm not a dumb mouse right? I'm also not a bird. I'm not a pet." Virgil glared at him, noticing how surprised he was. Virgil immediately lost all his confidence looking up. The mouse comment and seeing how the human looked at him reminded him of when he got caught in the mouse trap. He backed away from the human, he was scared he might've upset him because of the long silence that followed.
"You can talk?" The human finally said, bending down to get to eye level with him. Suddenly Virgil regretted talking, very, very much.
"Umm.. well I'm Logan." Virgil started trembling. He didn't want to say anything more but what if Logan got mad if he stayed silent?
