CHAPTER 29 – SO THAT WAS WHY

“She’s here!” Sabi ni Tito Don. Sabay-sabay naman kaming lumingon kung saan nakaharap si Tito.

Of all people, why does it has to be her?

You’re right. So si Ghem!? Si Ghem ang half sister ni Gerald? OMG! What a small world! And Cloud’s with her.

“Hi, dad! I miss you!” Masiglang sabi nito sabay yakap kay Tito Don. Ako naman ehh nakatitig lang sa kanila. Hindi ako maka-getover na si Ghem pala ang product ng secret affair ni Tito Don and somebody else. Oh my God! Ano na lang ang magiging rection ni Gerald kapag nalaman niya na yung half sister niya ang reason kung bakit ako pumunta ng Paris???

Gusto ko na lang lumubog sa kinauupuan ko. Hays, paano na ito???

“Ghizel, I want you to meet my wife, Patti.” Sabi ni Tito Don matapos niyang lumapit kay Tita Patti. Ngayon ehh face to face na sila Tita and Ghem. And wait, Ghizel pala name niya. So it means, nick name lang yung Ghem. Okayy. “Patti, this is Ghizel.”

Alam kong kinakabahan na naa-awkward’an si Tita Patti ngayon. But then, she managed a smile. “Ghizel, hija, nice to meet you finally...”

“Ahm...Nice meeting you too din po T-tita...” Naiilang na sabi ni Ghem.  And they shook hands.

“And this is Gerald, your brother.” Turo ni Tito Don kay Gerald.

“Hi, Gerald. Nice meeting you. Sana maging close tayo.” Close agad? Hays, talagang forever feeling close tong si Ghem. Tsk.

“Yeah...” Simpleng sagot ni Gerald. Nakatingin siya ngayon kay Cloud. Umupo si Ghemsa harap ko, samantalagang si Cloud naman sa tabi niya.

“Rain? Hi! What are you doing here?” Nakangiting sabi ni Rain nang mapansin niya ako.

“Ahm...” Fvck! Nakain ko na ata dila ko.

“You know Rain?” Naguguluhang tanong ni Gerald. Halatang confused din sila Tita and Tito. “And why are you with this guy, anyway???” Patungkol ni Gerald kay Cloud. For short, lahat kami ngayon confused sa nangyayari.

“Yeah, I know Rain because she’s working in Cloud’s company, right? And I’m working there too. And this is Cloud, my boyfriend.” Halos napanganga naman si Gerald sa narinig niya. Si Cloud naman ayun mukhang nagulat din nang malaman niyang si Gerald ay kapatid ni Ghem. Ang gulo noh???

“Wait, what’s happening here???” Tanong ni tito.  “You know each other???”

“Wait, to sum up everything, Cloud, Rain, and I are all working in one company.” Sabi ni Rain.

“But I was working there too.” Sabi naman ni Gerald. And I nodded.

“Really? I haven’t seen you yet. Oh what a small world! Hindi man lang tayo nagkikita sa iisang pinagtatrabahuan natin. But anyway, it’s good to know na katrabaho ko pala ang brother ko.” Masayang sabi ni Ghem, however, Gerald didn’t look the same.

“Are you Ghem?” Halata naman ang gulat sa mukha ni Ghem sa tanong ni Gerald.

“How did you know? Well, to answer your question, yes. Ghem is my nickname, Cloud gave it to me actually.” And she smiled so sweetly at Cloud. “But my whole name is Ghizel Iyame Benitez. Why did you ask?”

Gerald looked at me.

“Ahm...Excuse me...I just have to go to the CR.”

“Fvck Rain! Bakit ka ba pumayag sumama dito! You almost ruined everything! Ugh!!!” Inis na sabi ko habang nakatingin ako sa salamin ng CR ng restaurant na ito. “I really need to go! Kailangan ko nang magpaalam sa kanila. Sasabihin ko na lang may importante pa akong gagawin. Huhuhu! Ano ba to!!!”

Paglabas ko ng CR, nandoon naman  nakatayo si Gerald na tila inaabangan ako.

“What are you doing? Look, Gerald, I forgot that I have something to—“

“Is she the Ghem you are talking about???” Halata yung frustration sa mukha niya. Hindi ako nakasagot agad. “Rain, I’m asking you if she’s the same Ghem!!!” Pigil na pigil niya yung sarili niya na sumigaw.

“Ye-yeah... Gerald...Hindi mo naman kailangang magalit sa kanya or kahit na sino. She’s your sister afterall. Hindi ko rin inee-expect that you will choose to support her instead of me. Alam ko at alam mo na you say some bad things about her just because she’s the reason why I became so miserable before...and you can take this time para bawiin lahat ng sinabi mo sa kanya...You don’t have to take sides...” Paliwanag ko sa kanya. Sa tingin ko kasi yun yung reson kung bakit frustrated siya ngayon. Sino bang hindi magiging ganyan after you found out that the one who broke your bestfriend turned out to be your sister.

“Ofall the people, why her!!?” Inis na sabi niya. “At bakit kasama pa rin niya yung walangkwentang Cloud na yun! Ugh! This is fvckin terrible!!!” We stood there for a moment before he spoke again. “Rain, Im sorry...I’m sorry that it has to be her...And I have no idea...kung mas maaga lang sana ako naging ready para makilala siya, siguro napigilan ko pa siya dati...but I didn’t know...I’m sorry...” Malungkot na sabi niya.

“Alam mo...hindi ko alam kung bakit ka ganyan ngayon. Hindi ko alam kung bakit nagda-drama ka when it was me who got hurt and not you. Pero sapat na na nandiyan ka palagi sa tabi ko kapag kailangan kita...Hayaan mo na...Ako naman yung nasaktan eh...Pero don’t worry, okay na ako ngayon...” I said while hugging him.

We let go of each other and found ourselves face to face. I can almost s swore that he’s like...about to kiss me when...

“They are looking for you...” Someone said from behind. It was Cloud.

“Oh...”

“Yeah, right.” Gerald said while giving Cloud a murderous look.

“Yeah, dad. Cloud’s really sweet and asdfghkl” Pagkukwento ni Ghem habang kumakain kami. Hindi ko na lang iya pinapakinggan or I’ll lose my appetite.  Nag-focus na lang ako sa pagkain ko. Ganun dinsi Gerald. He didn’t even talk the whole time. Si Cloud naman eh tumatango-tango lang kapag pinapasang-ayon siya ni Ghem sa mga kwento niya. Si Tita Patti naman, halos hindi maka-relate. Hays. Eh parang hindi family dinner to eh. Parang sila Tito Don at Ghem lang magkausap. Hays. “And actually, we spent the whole day together...”
