2022, May 22 - Taehyung (Loops & Seokjin Hyung)

[Places: Beach, lounge, observation platform]

"Let's take a picture here!" Jungkook said to Seokjin hyung.

Without waiting for his answer, he pointed to Seokjin hyung's car. Jimin climbed up on the back hood followed by Yoongi hyung and Hoseok-ie hyung. Seokjin hyung stayed where he was, frowning. He still took out his camera and set it up in front of us. Hoseok hyung gestured for him to join us, but Seokjin hyung shook his head, looking stoic. After pressing the camera shutter, he peeled his eyes off the camera.

I walked towards hyung. Not because I was particularly concerned with how he was. As the sun set behind him, I saw his face. In the painted look on his face, so many other expressions also surfaced. And in one moment, our eyes met, but lost in a thought, he didn't even realize that.

"Are you okay?" I went close to hyung.

He was himself, the Seokjin hyung that I'd known. That was the only way I could describe him. He was the Seokjin hyung that I'd met two years ago, the real Seokjin hyung, the one who smiled awkwardly when teased by his friends who were younger than him, the one who seriously listened to his friend's troubles, and the one who always hesitated and thought about what would be a better choice for us. Soon afterwards, I was faced with a different Seokjin hyung. The one with the same expression as when he had been caught by Namjoon hyung while talking to the principal in the classroom.

I remembered his eyes from back then. His eyes said that, "I don't know how it happen. I don't know what I'm doing. I don't know how to get out of this. Help me."

He pulled out the Polaroid picture and turned around. The others were still joking around on the rear hood. Before I could say anything, he'd turned around. With his head in his hands, it was obvious he had a headache, and he crumpled up the picture and threw it on the ground. And he started walking towards the observatory.

I picked up the picture and smoothed it out. I didn't want the time we'd spent together to be ruined. With the picture in my pocket, I followed him.

"Let's go to the ocean."

Hoseok: Jungkook-ah, hurry up!

I sit down on the sand a little distance away from the others as they laugh and chat. It feels strange. It's the first time I've been back here since high school... but everything about the situation unfolding seems familiar, like I've experienced it before.

"Taehyung-ie hyung! What are you doing?" Jungkook walks away from the others and come towards me. He asks me a question.

"Jungkook-ah..." I ask, just in case. "Was that structure there when we first came here?"

Jungkook looks at the observation platform and tilts his head. "If it was here we would've gone up on it. But I don't have any memories of doing that?"

The sun slowly begins to set. We all gather around and sit around the platform, not wanting to leave yet. This is very strange. I've seen all of this before. It was a dream that was too realistic. This beach, the seven of us... And that towering observation platform. The last thing I saw in the dream was myself standing up on that platform. I was smiling down at the ground from the top, and... I feel like it really happened.

"Oh? Seokjin hyung!"

I turn my head towards where Jungkook's pointing. Hyung's up there at the top of the observation platform. Was it really a dream? Could it be...

I had seen this all before. In a dream that felt too vivid and real, I saw this sea, the seven of us, and the towering observatory. I stood on the observatory at the end of the dream. Everyone looked up at me. They were far away, so their faces were hard to see. Still, I smiled at them. As if I was bidding them farewell. And then I jumped.
