2022, May 11 - Seokjin (Persuading Jimin)

[Place: Hospital]

Jimin seems really surprised by our sudden meeting. I calm him down before taking him to the lounge.

"I was really shocked. What brings you here?"

"I was on my way out after visiting someone I know." I give an excuse and Jimin nods.

His cheeks are hollowed, and his hands look skinnier than usual. Now that I'm face-to-face with Jimin... I can't seem to figure out what to say.

"I didn't think I'd see you here." The way Jimin smiles awkwardly while avoiding my gaze reminds me of the writing I saw on the career plan.

Year 2 high school student.

Park Jimin who dances in Hoseok's dance club.

College-aged Park Jimin, attending lecture at a university.

Will I be able to move Jimin go act if I tell him he'll be able to do all those things if we leave here? I need to start convincing him now.

I'll start asking him some easy questions to start.

"Jimin-ah, are you injured?"

Jimin hesitates for a moment before answering. "Um, my wrist..." He's talking about the reason why he's here in the surgical ward and not the psychiatric one.

"What happened?"

"I just... It just happened..."

"When do you get discharged?

"Um, I'm not sure."

"Here? About 2 weeks."

He's talking about how long he's been in the surgical ward and not the psychiatric one. "Are you sick?"

"Just..."

Jimin looks grim when he can't give a proper answer. "I think I have to go now. It's almost time for treatment, too..." Jimin avoids looking at me as he stands up to leave.

"Jimin-ah." I don't know when I'll get to see him again if we say goodbye now. I have no other choice. I better tell him the reason why I'm here. I rush after him and block his path. "Jimin-ah, I'm here because I know everything. You want to leave this place, don't you?"

"What are you talking about?"

"You've been here for 2 years." Jimin takes a few steps back. Thankfully, he doesn't run away. "I just happened to hear about how your eommeoni locked you in the psychiatric ward."

Jimin looks scared as he shakes his head no. "No. I'm here because I'm sick."

"Jimin-ah, I can help you." His eyes falter at my words. What do I say now? "Let's get out of here."

My suggestion renders Jimin silent for a long while. "Hyung... Even if I leave, I'll eventually come back."

"What's most important is how you feel." I can't help but feel bad hearing Jimin's voice, because it sounds like he's given up on everything. "Jimin-ah, you really want to stay here? That's okay with you? Do you really..."

"... Not have anything you want to do? You must have something you want to do, something you want to become. Whether it's studying or dancing."

"I don't... have anything like that."

I want to push back, tell him not to lie. But I can't, seeing him so pale and shaky. I decide to ask one last time. "You don't want to go outside and see your friends?" Jimin seems to perk up at the word 'friends'. I desperately hope he'll muster up the courage, but there's no response. "Think about it Jimin... I'll come back to visit again."

His gaze never leaves the ground.
