Well best and worst night of my life. And last day of last year and first day of this year. Hopefully the best one of my life.
We went to mr. Waltson's New Year's Eve party. Rechelle has probably told you about that mess.
Well anyway. We were at the party, having the best times of the year there. It was nice to not have to worry if you're full paying or scholarship. Even though we were still segregated still, you could at least feel unity while we were jumping around to pop music mixed with the every so often cheesy 80's song with Mr. Waltson singing to it in the mic.
It came to the point where it was about 5 minutes to midnight and mr. Waltson made the announcement we needed to find someone to dance with. I didn't want to ask timothy or allen. That would be even more awkward than usual.
I wanted to dance with James, but he was probably somewhere snogging makayla so eventually just decided I would walk out into the hall. I'd be spending New Years alone, my friends were all probably in there dancing with their crush or a friend, I was alone sitting on the floor.
Then a miracle happened. James stepped out, but he looked a little surprised. "Where's Makayla?" I ask. "In there, she didn't want to dance with me." He responds a little disgruntled.
"Look that time you walked by while Makayla and I were, locking lips was accidental. We didn't mean for you to see that." He looks a little awkward. "Do you still like me?" I splurt out. I didn't mean to say it but it just came out.
He looks at me a minute like I'm a little crazy. "Yes." He flat out says. I blush and look away. "Why?" He questions. "I like you." I almost whisper it im so quiet. He just looks at me. Like he's staring, wondering what I'll do next. I sigh.
"Really? You're not just joking with me." He asks. This time he sees it the hurt in my eyes. "When I saw you with Makayla I felt like I died inside."
I stood up. He still was looking at me. "How long have you liked me?" He questions. "Since October at least." I'm whispering.
"Well Makayla comes first right now, but you're second." He states. We look at eachother for a while. "Why didn't she want to dance with you?" I ask. "She said I talked about you too much." He replied.
Right then I knew just how much he liked me. Then I did something that might have thrown him a little off hook. I hugged him. That kind they do in the movies were you kind of leap into their arms. He didn't act surprised, he just held me there.
Midnight came right on cue and as the school started cheering he put me down. "May I have this dance?" He asked. I laughed and we waltzed until the song ended.
"There you are James! I've been looking everywhere for you!" Makayla walks out the gym doors. "Thank you for the dance. It was great." I don't look at him again and hurry into the gym again.
Even though I may not have landed my prince charming, I got to hug him. I don't really pay attention to the next dance, or the dance after. I just think of what him holding me felt like.
Soon it time to go back to our dorm rooms and sleep through the day.
Reneigh and Juliana finally sleep over again, but I don't talk to them. I just run to my bed, and get into the curtains.
I open my journal and jot down the date then I simply write:
I got to hug him last night. :).
I don't do anything else and fade into my dreams content with how my year had started.
