LOKI HAD JUST GOTTEN HIS DAUGHTER BACK.
And she slipped through his fingers, again. To be fair, this was a very different situation - and since Eva had managed to regain all her memories before she disappeared to Midgard, Loki didn't worry about recalling the specific memories in fear his anger would overcome him.
The first time Eva left Asgard, it was by a conspiracy of a higher level. After the death of Sigyn, Loki was distraught. His focus had gone from the war to his grief, to his need to defeat death itself. His mind had shifted from the war to his child, his child who'd grow without a mother, and himself, who had lost a soulmate that he'd never get back.
And then Odin stepped in. The war was growing more of a threat every day, and though Thor was a force to reckon with, Loki's lack of attention was proving detrimental to the war. He tried to talk him back into the army, but with the Valkryie having fallen, and Loki's pain, there was no use.
Not while his child was a constant reminder of everything he'd lost.
There were nights when Loki could not sleep. And he would wonder the castle purposely, his eyes nearly bleeding red and his shoulders sinking into his chest.
He had lost his will.
And Odin thought he could fix this. Loki had always been good at pushing truths away. He had always been alright with focusing on one thing at a time, and if Odin could just manage to-
"It's safer for her on earth. She cannot stay here, Loki- you are inattentive, distracted-"
"Can you not see why? My wife is dead. The mother of my child has been murdered."
"She will leave. She will go to earth-"
"You will not take my child from me!"
"It's what's best for Asgard."
"It's what's best for you! So you can sit on that throne and forget that you can lead battalions yourself?"
Eva screamed when the guards had come for her. Loki had never heard her like that - her voice was raw and desperate and she screeched as loudly as she could, "Father! Father! Please!"
The healers tried to fight Odin's commands. Frigga tried to, as well, but there was no use.
Eva never stopped fighting. She clawed and hit every guard, every healer that came near here. Even as they extracted her memory, she fought. She struggled and screamed until her body had given out.
And for years Loki had waited for her return. For years, he stayed silent against Odin's bidding. He waited.
But no longer. He would not wait for the words of a man who could easily be thrown from his throne.
