Five Years Later
"Wait, Your Majesty the King wants you to rest!"
I stormed down the hallway, my guard trailing behind me in distress. "I've had enough resting! I've been sitting for hours and I need some fresh air!"
"But the King said-"
"Oh forget what he said! I'm going out and no one can stop me!" My guard made a sound low in his throat as he hurried behind me.
Just because I was pregnant with our son does not mean I will sit still and stare out the window for hours. Who does he think he is to confine me to my room? He better not cross my path today because I am angry and no one wants to mess with an angry pregnant lady.
Don't get me wrong, I love my husband but he needs to take a breather. Despite his overbearing protective side, I wouldn't have him any other way.
After the war ended, the last of the rebels were rounded up and were given the opportunity to right their wrongs. Those who refused were imprisoned, the royals deeming it dangerous to release them back into society. The rest either became warriors or guards for the two royal families.
During the war, the Western and Eastern Kingdom fell and the royals were massacred along with hundreds of their people so the only ones left standing are the North and South. An agreement was made that the extra lands would be absorbed into the remaining Kingdoms. The people there were happy for these changes.
Lots of changes had to be made but with the help of everyone, we were able to achieve a lot within these five years. Meeting my family for the first time was a bit awkward but that soon passed when my mother and father welcomed me with tearful hugs. Father was a little skeptical of Killian at first but like the charming guy he is, he won him over with some compliments and a few brush of Father's ego.
It was two years ago that he asked for my hand in marriage.
A year since our coronation as King and Queen of the Northern Kingdom and my grandparents' retirement.
And now, I'm several months along with our first child.
I shook my head with a smile at how life can take a turn for the worst but with the right people, that worst can quickly become the best.
"Amara!" Rory, the little boy who was brought to Lunaravia with me, appeared in front of me in a cloud of feathers. Since his wings were growing, the feathers were molting and new ones were growing in.
"Weren't you going to visit Galore?"
He grinned but then quickly schooled his expression so he appeared serious. "I was told not to let you leave the castle."
"You're kidding." He shook his head.
I seethed as I balled my hands into fists. "Just wait until I get my hands on him, I'll-"
A furry head nudged my protruding belly, interrupting my thoughts. You shouldn't stress.
I scoffed, "He's the one causing me stress."
Arcadia blinked, planting her furry butt on the pristine floor. I will never understand protective males.
"Wait until you get a mate of your own."
She scrunched up her nose as if the thought disgusted her. I patted her head and continued my way to the garden which was built when Killian found out how much I like flowers.
Outside, I breathed in their sweet scent which steadily grew stronger as I walked closer. Rounding the corner, I quickly dove back behind the wall when I saw two people standing there. Arcadia huffed and padded back behind me.
We shouldn't spy on them.
"Shh, she hasn't given me any updates on them. Call it an inconspicuous check up."
Peeking out, we watched Cora and the guy walking slowly, hands brushing with each step. Despite the lack of wings behind him, the regal way he stood left no doubts of his strength.
His name's Jaxon, the guy who worked at that antique shop back when I was in the human world. He had saved me from a human but turns out it wasn't the first time he did.
The mysterious person who had saved me back when I was a small child taken away from my parents and had left on the front porch of a couple in the Western village was him. Imagine my shock when I saw him again and admitted that Killian was the one who had him find me.
All these years I thought I was alone... I was so wrong.
Jaxon hesitantly took Cora's hand, making her blush a bright red. They were too far for us to hear anything but the smiles on both their faces spoke everything that I didn't need to hear.
"Spying are we?"
I jumped and whirled around to see my husband raising an eyebrow at me. I smiled at him, "She never told me anything that was happening between them."
"And you thought it would be right to spy?"
I took his large hands in mine, the silver ring on his hand glinting in the sun. "Of course!"
Killian shook his head at me and knelt down, placing a kiss on my stomach. Warmth spread through me as he caressed the large bump. "Hello little guy, you doing good in there?"
There was a kick in response.
Killian laughed, happiness blooming across his features. "You're a strong one huh? Just you wait, when you're old enough I'll teach you how to take down the biggest Winged that exist."
I rolled my eyes. Men. I vaguely noticed Casor and Arcadia trying to catch a butterfly a few yards away. For being powerful protectors they sure do act like children.
Placing another kiss on my stomach, Killian took my hand and led me towards our garden. "I have a surprise for you"
"What is it?"
"It wouldn't be a surprise if I told you." His wings brushed mine as we walked, causing a shiver to run down my body.
Going through the arch entrance that was entwined with vines, I gasped at the sight in front of me. Lights were strewn across the bushes, giving everything a beautiful soft glow. In the middle was a blanket and several plates of food were arranged neatly on top of it. Arcadia and Casor were laying in the corner of the garden, eyes watching us.
We sat down and ate, reminiscing the events of the past few years. We didn't speak of the past or a certain white winged prince. This was our time, away from our duties to Lunaravia, in our little world where we're just a girl and a boy.
As we laid down on the blanket, we watched as the sun gave its spot to the moon. Millions of stars peered through the darkness and winked at us from above. I thought about the words I spoke to Killian so many years ago.
It's funny how fate works because once upon a time I had hoped for him to watch the stars with someone who would make him happy. Little did I know, fate gave me a second chance to be happy too.
