47: Chosen one

Jennie pov
I left the elevator and entered the cold hallway. My steps slowed fastened as I felt chills all over my body.

In front of Taehyung's apartment door, I stopped and rang the doorbell. It had been a few days since I had met Jongin and ever since Taehyung had seemed distant.

His replies to my texts were dry and overall not like him and I knew I couldn't just let him leave to his overseas schedule without at least saying goodbye to him.

I looked down at my watch. He still had five hours until he had to head to the airport, still enough for me to talk with him.

"Tae?", I shouted as I continued ringing the bell.

He has to be home, I thought, Jimin said so.

"What do you want?", I finally heard his voice from the other side of the door.

"I want to see you, why else would I be here?", I replied.
I stepped back and with a soft smile gracing my lips I waited for him to open the door.

He didn't. The door stayed closed as I was just standing there, feeling every cell of my body freeze.

"Hey, are you still there?", I asked as I was slowly starting to worry.

"I am."

Something about the way he responded seemed fishy to me. Also, the fact that he hadn't opened the door was making me feel uneasy.

"Please open the door. I need to make sure you're okay, I need to see it with my own eyes."

"I am fine, Jennie, there's no need to worry", he clearly sounded tired but I couldn't decipher whether it was because of his tough schedule or because of me.

"Then please open the door for me, we need to talk.

Silence.

"Look, I'm not going to leave until you talk to me", I added, laughing uncomfortably.

Silence.

"I can play this game all day long if you want but please, even if it's just for a second, open the door."

"Did our time mean nothing to you?"

"What?", I was taken aback by him suddenly talking.

"Taehyung, please. I don't know what you're talking about so open the door for me, hmm?"

My hand was resting on the door, hoping that he would let me in.

"You're the one I've always wanted, Jennie", his voice was closer so I assumed that he was standing at the door with his head only a few inches away from it.

"But I haven't been the one you wanted."

Something in his words made me panic. He wasn't drunk, I could tell by the way he pronounced every word perfectly, so I wondered what was going on with him.

"Please, open the door", I urged, staring at the door. At that moment I hoped to get superpowers with which I could see through the door to see how he was doing.

But of course, it was childish hoping for something to happen that only exists in movies.

"For months you chose Jongin over me, for months I had to see you going through the heartbreak he had caused you. And-"
