48: The feeling of missing someone

Chaeyoung pov
Standing with my back facing the crowd, I stood at Aurora's bar, playing with the straw of my drink.

The boys had been away for almost two weeks as they had schedules to attend in the US over New Years' Eve.

I had been counting the days until I could be back in Jimin's arms and with each day passing by quickly, I only had to wait one more day.

Sighing I rested my head on the palm of my hand, pondering whether I should go dancing or not.

Before I could even make up my mind I felt someone tap on my shoulder and when I turned around I was surprised to see Jaehyun stand in front of me.

"Hey, can we talk for a second?", he asked as he looked around nervously.

I nodded, taking a step to the side so someone else could access the spot I had been standing at.

"Is it true?", he asked.

I didn't understand so I just looked at him with furrowed brows.

"Sorry, I don't know if I'm following. Is what true?"

"That article. That you're dating someone.

"Jaehyun, I-... My company already denied that rumor, isn't that enough of an answer?", I asked, feeling the palms of my hands getting sweaty.

"But I want to hear it from you. I want to hear you say that you're not seeing anyone."

"Uhh, I- uhm....", I stuttered as I tried to avoid his gaze.

We had been friends since our debut and I always suspected him to have a thing for me but since he never made a move I just let it slip by.

"The shorter and clearer your answer is, the less painful it'll be for me, Chaeyoung."

I looked at him perplexed and opened my mouth just to close it again without saying anything.

Sooner or later I had to ruin our friendship, but I wanted to hold onto it just a moment longer.

"Well, that's too bad, Mister Jung Jaehyun", a voice behind me appeared, "because this beautiful lady is already taken."

I felt a hand wrap around my waist and I was pulled a step to the side. My shoulder bumped against another person, who's cologne I would recognize everywhere.

"Taken by me."

When I looked up I could see Jimin's side profile. He was looking at Jaehyun, his jaw clenched but a nonchalant smile on his lips.

"You're back", I mumbled, not believing my own eyes. With the colorful lights flashing all across his face he looked like an angel in human form, visiting earth for the first time. The light was reflecting in his eyes and his skin was glowing.

His gaze wandered to me and for a moment his look softened.

"Did you miss me?"

He placed a kiss on my temple and then turned his head back to Jaehyun.

"Sorry, buddy, but I don't think you got a chance with her", he winked at him and after nodding dejectedly, Jaehyun left.

My eyes were still glued on the man beside me. To that moment I had never realized how much one could miss someone so much.

Even though his warm hand rested on my body, even though I could smell his cologne, and even though I could hear his voice, I was still missing him.

He was so close, yet so far away.

"What are you doing here?", I asked after Jimin pulled me closer to him, "Weren't you supposed to come back the day after tomorrow?"

"Mhm, but one schedule was canceled so we were allowed to come back earlier."

He lowered his head and was about to kiss me but I placed my hand on his lips.

"We can't. People will know that we are dating."

"So? I don't see a problem with that", he mumbled as his hand wrapped around my wrist, pulling my hand away from his mouth.

He smiled cheekily like he had nothing to lose.

"Let's let them know that we are dating", his eyes were glued to my lips", besides that, I really missed kissing my girlfriend."

The moment his lips crashed onto mine, I realized how, in fact, nothing else mattered.

I was ready to let people see who I was dating, I was ready to let people see whom I belonged to and who belonged to me.

"C'mon, let's get out of here", he smiled as he pulled away. His fingers intertwined with mine and together we went upstairs to the VIP room.

"You got the card?", he asked and I pulled out the card he had lent me for the time being.

I ran it over the scanner, opening the door for us.

"...just give him some time."

As Jimin closed the door behind us I curiously looked at Yoongi, who was standing behind the bar and mixing some drinks while talking to Jennie.

She had been looking miserable the past few days but she chose to not talk to any of us about it.

Jisoo, who was sitting next to her on the couch nodded, seemingly agreeing with what Yoongi had just said, even though she looked totally out of it.

Her eyes were fixated on Lisa, who was standing near the window, staring out into the cold January night.

The whole scene felt so out of place, so surreal, that I wanted to pinch myself to see if any of this was really happening.

"Did we miss something?", Jimin asked as he walked to the bar, his arm brushing past mine as he walked past me.

"Taehyung and Jennie had an argument and now she's worried about him because he hasn't been replying to her texts", Yoongi explained as he handed him a bottle of beer.

"Hmm, he has been acting kinda weird lately too, so that'd explain it", Jimin mumbled before he sat down on the couch across the girls, waving me to him.

Just when I was about to sit down the door opened.

I turned around, my eyes meeting Namjoon's and then Taehyung's.

The later was looking tired. His skin was pale and it seemed like he hadn't been sleeping at all.

"Tae-", Jennie's voice was shaky and so full of longing. She seemed glad to finally see him again but at the same time worried about his well-being.

Taehyung lowered his head and then turned around and was about to leave without even saying anything.

Jennie stood up and was about to run after him but she couldn't even take a step forward.

I watched as she stretched out her arm as if she was trying to get ahold of him, while her eyes slowly started to close.

Dreading the sight that was about to play out in front of me I jumped forward.

Before I could even reach her, her body collapsed to the ground with a thud.
