'If only I called for a different pitch..no, if I just let her walk him..'

Miyuki closed his eyes, yesterday's scene re-playing over and over again in his head.

He sat at his desk watching the rain hit the window. Behind him was Heidi's desk, empty and cold, as if she hasn't been there for weeks. Everyone in the team was gloomy and worried. Both their pitchers who were going to lead them in the tournament were in the hospital injured from yesterday's scrimmage, Tanba getting hit in the face when he was up to bat and Heidi getting hit in the head by a line drive when she was pitching.

"Miyuki." Kuramochi stood next to him full of concern, "Have you heard anything about Heidi?" Miyuki clenched his fist and turned his head towards him. "No..I haven't." Miyuki rubbed his eyes and turned his head back towards the window.

Miyuki got on one knee to Heidi's side trying not to move her. She laid on her side, her glove still on her hand, and blood running down the side of Heidi's head where the ball hit her. Coach Kataoka got to her with some of the Seido boys following up next to him.

"Heidi!" Her god father said as he started to exam her. She opened her eyes and groaned out in pain. She mumbled something in english and tried to push herself up. "Heidi please don't move." Miyuki said trying not to over panic. Heidi ignored him and sat halfway up mumbling. "Where am ngh.." As soon as she was able sit up she lost balance and fell unconscious.

"Heidi!" Miyuki yelled out her name as his blood ran cold. Her god father was able to catch her before she injured herself even more.

"Rei!" He yelled out. "Call an ambulance!"

After what felt like an eternity a stretcher came by and carried Heidi away. Miyuki was starting to follow her not wanting to leave her side when Coach Kataoka stopped him.

"Miyuki please stay here. You are most needed here." Miyuki was about to argue but held himself back and regretfully agreed.

The whole team was in a state of shock over what had just happened. Miyuki regretting telling Heidi to throw that pitch. Tetsuya helped walk Miyuki back into the dug out where most of the team who wasn't on the field stood in silence, trying to take in what just happened. Tetsuya put a hand on Miyuki's shoulder. Miyuki stood facing the wall tears running down his face.

Why did I call that pitch..

Out of pure anger with himself Miyuki punched the wall in front of him and walked off the other side of the dugout, not caring that blood was dripping off his knuckles.

Later on in the next scrimmage the team was in deeper shock when Tanba was hit in the face by a ball while being up to bat.

Miyuki with everyone else in the team stood in the indoor practice building listening to all the coaches announcements about the Summer Tournament and Heidi and Tanba's condition.

"As you all know yesterday our two pitchers Heidi and Tanba were injured in yesterday's scrimmage. Tanba suffering a cracked chin but luckily it's not a complete fracture. Now with Heidi.." Coach Katoka stopped more a moment and took a breath before continuing on, "was lucky. She is currently still being examined but for now she just has a concussion..but both Heidi and Tanba might not make it to prelims."

Everyone in the room tensed up.

"Honestly, I still feel unsettled. Both pitchers were showing great potential and recognizing their positions of being the ace, so I'm sure they're both feeling upset about this. With all that is going on as a coach I have to announce the ace title to Tanba and Heidi as his relief pitcher. Until they get back we will fight the battles as one team!"
