Chapter 7

Arriving at Accident and Emergency, Jason raced through to the reception desk, pushing through several groups of people. A young reception nurse looked up from her computer, "OMG, did anyone ever tell you, you look just like...?"

"Yeah a few. A girl was brought in a few moments ago by ambulance?"

"You might have to be a bit more specific... we're pretty busy." The nurse wasn't going to stand any nonsense.

Jason decided despite feeling frantic, his best way forward to was lay on some charm, "yeah, sorry, just a bit worried you know, could you help me please?" Jason smiled and looked at her as if she was the only important person in the room, and it worked.

"Yeah sure, when was she brought in?"

"Few minutes ago, something happened at her house, I'm not sure what?"

"Ok. Let me check," the nurse clicked through her computer screen, after a few moments, she looked up, "Ok we do have something here..."

"She's alive, is she ok?" Jason spat out the words forgetting his charm offensive.

"Yes, not sure, the Dr's are with her now."

"Where ? What cubical?"

"You can't go in, the police are outside,"

"Where?" He repeated more urgently.

"Down the hall, turn right and through to critical care, but like I say you can't go in, take a seat, and I'll see if someone can speak to you? Are you family?"

"No, friend... I just need to see if she's ok, that's all."

"Ok, sit over there and I'll see what I can do?"

Jason didn't want to sit, he looked around at the busy area, he hadn't taken much notice at just how busy the place was. There a few grim sights. He knew people were looking at him and questioning was he or wasn't he that famous actor? Jason ignored them, he found a dark spot in a corner at the back of the waiting area, from there he could see everything and everyone. An hour passed when eventually a policeman found him and took him to one side.

"I hear you are asking about the lady that was brought in, a Harriet Grace?"

That was her last name, he didn't know that, "Yeah, she ok? What happened?"

"We aren't quite sure at the moment, from what we gather there was a masked intruder, pushed his way in."

"A robbery?"

"No we don't think so, nothing appears to have been taken. You are a friend I take it?"

"Yeah, can I see her?"

"Are you Jason?"

"Yeah... "

"She actually mentioned you and asked us to get hold of you." Jason breathed a little easier, good, she was talking and wanted to see him, his heart skipped just a little. "Come with me." The older policeman shifted effortlessly through the web of people with Jason following. They made their way through to an even busier area where Drs and nurses seemed to be running about between patients. Somewhere close there was a man screaming he wanted to leave, three burly security guards rushed past to the screaming man.

"She's in here, now she's pretty banged up so no shocked faces!" Jason could hear muffled voices from behind a curtain, Jason pulled back the curtain, there was a policewoman, writing down notes and Harry was lying on the bed, one side of her face was swollen and she had a doozy of a black eye, the gown she wore had blood on it that had seeped from a wound on her head. Jason rushed to her side, without saying a word Harry let herself be folded into his arms, everything hurt, but somehow having him there made her life seem so much better.
