Chapter 32

Jason stayed with Harry the entire time, the nurses found a comfier chair for him, which he was grateful for, and he managed to cat nap in-between the various noises and shouts from the staff and very poorly patients. Barry and Chris hung around and each were interviewed again by the police. Kevin was safely locked up and awaiting a court date and further investigation.

For the next 24 hours Jason watched and waited for any sign that Harry was improving. He should have felt relieved that the danger was now behind them, but he didn't. All Jason wanted was for Harry to wake up and hear her voice.

Chris and Barry finally managed to convince Jason to go shower and change they promised they would wait by her side and let him know as soon as anything changed. After Jason had cleaned himself up, he didn't go straight back to the hospital instead he went into Bakewell and in search of a jewellers. Jason had no idea of ring size or what she'd like, but that didn't matter to him, it could be changed or altered. Right now, all he wanted was to put a ring on her finger. With his cap dipped over his eyes slightly and dark glasses on he found a small jewellery shop. His first instinct was to buy the biggest diamonds possible and it to be completely over the top a statement kind of ring. But knew she would really hate that. Instead Jason decided on a single solitaire set in platinum. With the purchase safely in his pocket, Jason headed back to the hospital, feeling a little excited and relieved that soon this will all be over and they would have a new beginning together.

There were things to sort out like, where would they live? How would she cope with being his wife? The paparazzi? All these needed to be decided but Jason knew in his heart they could and would be overcome, there was no way he was going to live his life without her. Whatever happens in the future they would be together and that was all that mattered.

Jason returned to the hospital, and in would seem at the perfect time. The Drs after some consultation decided it was time to wake Harry up. Nervously Jason waited with Barry and Chris outside, they went for another really bad cup of coffee in the hospital café. After an hour, Jason couldn't stand the wait any more, so they left and returned to the ICU. Through the window, they could see Harry's breathing tube was out, there were still machines around showing stats and making noises, but she seemed to be breathing well on her own. A Dr came out and explained that it isn't a quick process, and it was quite possible that Harry wouldn't open her eyes for quite some time yet and advised them to go and come back, which Jason refused. Barry and Chris left they had to get back to London, but rest assured if Jason needed them, they would return.

The hours felt like double their length of normal time as Jason waited and waited. He held her hand, stroked her cheek, talked about everything and anything, about Caron and what she had done. Jason talked about Kevin and how he was now locked up.

Finally at 1 in the morning Harry woke up, groggily and in some confusion at first. Jason rang the bell and shouted at the door for someone to come. A large nurse hustled in she checked all the machines and leant over Harry, she took her blood pressure, temperature and spoke to her the entire time, reassuring her that everything was ok.

Jason was evicted from the room as a Dr was called in who made his own checks. They helped Harry to sit up a little and Jason watched as they gave her some water which she had difficulty in swallowing at first. Jason was so happy to see her awake yet nervous and quite aware that she wasn't out of the woods yet.

After what seemed like an age the Dr came out of the room, leaving the door ajar, he spoke to Jason in lowered tones; explaining that there were still some risks, possible amnesia but all signs were looking really positive.

Jason stood in the doorway and just looked at Harry, his heart full of love and feelings of sheer basic protective instincts. Their eyes met, Jason rushed forward desperate to just grab her and pull her into his arms but he daren't instead he sat at the side of her before leaning forward and kissing her fervently on the mouth.

He pulled back his face was an inch from hers, "Hi" he whispered.

"Do I know you?" Harry whispered back.

Jason's heart stopped for several seconds as his stomach sank to the ground, he frowned creasing his forehead, his breath caught in his throat.

"Kiss me again, I'm sure I'll remember you then," Harry whispered again, this time smiling a little. Jason didn't wait for a second invitation.

A knock on the door interrupted them, a woman's cough made them separate, "let's not have too much excitement in here, eh?"

"Harry?" Jason said her name as if questioning her, had she forgotten him?

"Yes Jason," Harry replied smiling up at him her eyes glistening with tears of love and relief at just the sight of him.

"You had me worried then." Jason rested his forehead on hers.

"Sorry,"

"I have something for you?"

"I'm sure you do but not sure this is the right place or time." Harry had not lost her sense of humour.

Jason laughed, "bugger!" Jason fished around in his pocket and found his previous purchase. He didn't let go of her hand for a second but with the other hand he opened the box so she could see the engagement ring he had bought for her. Harry's eyes widened briefly in surprise.

"I'd get down on one knee if we were anywhere else, I love you so much and I know there are going to be hurdles and things we have to work out but as long as you are with me, we can figure it out."

Harry was silent for a moment as she looked between Jason and the ring. She loved him with all her heart and had never been so pleased to see someone as him standing there in her doorway.

"I have no idea what the future will bring or how we are going to do this but, yes. I love you so much it hurts, you are my saving grace."

Jason placed the ring on her finger, before kissing her in such a way that promised love, care, tenderness and protection for whatever may come their way.
