Chapter 10

Once breakfast was over, they cleared away and moved to the front room, the fire was still just going, so Jason stoked it and added another log. "I need to go out and make some calls, will you be ok here?" Jason asked as Harry slumped in the corner of the sofa.

"Yeah sure... I take it no signal here?"

"Not even a bar... I'll call the hospital and find out about your friend, you want me call to anyone else?" Jason hadn't even thought or wondered if she had family, they could be worrying sick about her by now.

"No, no one." Harry sighed.

"No family?"

"No family, I'm a Barnardo's kid."

It hadn't crossed Jason's mind that she might not have family, she was a constant surprise. "Oh..." What do you say to that? There was so much that they didn't know about each other. "Lock the front door, and I won't be long." It seemed perfectly natural, Jason bent down and kissed her on her forehead before he left. Jason grabbed his coat and jumped in the car, he drove for about 10 miles before coming across a pub, it wasn't open but he drew up in the car park and parked, and effectively found an internet spot to use. The person he rang was Guy, he had to give him some sort of explanation for what was going or knowing Guy he'd be sending all sorts of people down to see him. He wasn't happy and confused why Jason had even got involved and told him so. "It'll end in tears, you know this right?" Guy told him as he sighed, Jason could see him in his mind's eye shaking his head.

"Yeah I know, but I just couldn't leave her like that."
"Caron know?"

"Yeah told her it was over, we've over for a while, but we just kind of carried on. It was convenient for us both."

"Don't you think you are being a bit hasty with all this, you do realise you are going to have to come back and you have contracts to fulfil and filming won't wait."

"I know, and I'll fulfil them, how's the investigation going? How's his family?"

"Yeah I talk to them every day, there's a hearing booked for next week, but think it's more of a tick box exercise, we did everything we could to ensure his safety, all the measures were in place, so I know we aren't liable."

"And have the family been compensated?" Jason still felt terrible for the stuntman's death and guilty, it should have been him that did the stunt falling from the building.

"Yeah kind of, it's on going it's out of my hands the film company and lawyers are sorting that out."

"I don't want them cheated Guy."

"They won't be." Guy sighed again there was a few seconds of silence between them, "So what's your plan? What happens now?"

Jason took a deep breath in and looked about him as if looking for some sort of sign, "I have no idea, I really haven't thought that far ahead... stay here for a couple of weeks, get her back on her feet, then take her home I suppose. Hopefully, by then they will have caught whoever it was."

"And she still has no idea, who you really are?"

"Nope, I feel bad and I'll have to tell her just not now, she's been through enough I don't think throwing my real name at her will do her any good."

"You're going to have to tell her, you know that?"

"Yeah I do, and I will, just not right now." Jason wasn't an idiot he knew he'd have to tell her and he wanted to, he didn't like all the deceit but so much had happened he didn't think telling her right now was the best idea.
