Chapter 8

Jason left Harry sleeping in her cubicle, she still looked a mess but the nurses had cleaned her up as best they could. Never before had Jason felt so out of control of a situation and he didn't like it. He knew there had to be something more to all this, there had to be a connection, what with the dick of an ex, the shooting and now being attacked in her own home.

A policeman came outside to join him, it was the middle of the night and still the amount of people arriving at the hospital hadn't lessened if anything it had got busier.

"So... what's your plan? Just so we know where to contact you. Should anything arise." The policeman was in his 50s he looked tired but relaxed, he was obviously a seasoned officer.

Jason stood still, and thought for a moment, "so far the plan is to hide out for a while, let her heal and then face whatever comes next," Jason zipped up his jacked further, it was freezing, he didn't know the time but it must be about 2 in the morning, and he was still waiting on the car and to get Harry signed out. Everything seemed to take such a long time.

"You think you know what's going on? You don't believe the attack was random do you?" The police officer was straight to the point.

"No, I don't, I haven't known Harry long," Jason took a sharp intake of breath, that was an understatement of the year, "but I do know that none of this adds up to coincidence."

"She got any enemies?"

Jason shrugged his shoulders, "I'm not sure but her ex seemed to be pretty handy with this fists and not sure he liked it when she told him it was over."

"Name?"

"Mark, but don't know his surname, the bouncer at the club where she worked seemed to know him." Jason gave him the details of what he knew, which wasn't very much.

"Where you planning on going?"

"I've managed to get a place in the Peak District, pretty remote so will give her, and us some time. I grew up kind of near there so know it pretty well."

"Have you left your details yet, with anyone? Another officer?"

"No" Jason had been putting that off, he couldn't not tell him the truth, "My name's Jason Statham and here is my number, my phone is on all the time, although not sure what signal I'll get, but I could call in on you?"

The policeman seemed completely unphased by the name and didn't even raise an eyebrow, Jason wasn't sure if he felt hurt or relieved. "Look I'd appreciate it if you didn't tell too many ... "Jason looked for the right word, "... unnecessary people that, that's my name."

The policeman looked up from writing his notes, "is there a problem, a warrant out for you?"

Jason laughed, "no nothing like that, just like to keep things private."

"Oh ok, well I'll do my best. The house, I was there earlier, it looks a mess and will need a clean up."

That had crossed Jason's mind, "yeah don't worry, I'll sort it and get the locks changed tomorrow, police done with the scene?"

"I think so, but if you call me tomorrow, I'll let you know."

"What about Carl? Her friend..." Jason knew that Harry would want to know everything when she was more lucid.

"In a coma, think they're going to do some scans, and will know more tomorrow, he's in a bad way, looks like he bore the brunt of the attack. It could all be to do with him, and your friend, Harry just got in the way?"
