Chapter 19

Harry crept down the stairs, she knew where every creak would come from on the steps and managed to avoid them. Still with the umbrella held high she listened to every sound, the silence was deafening, but there was definitely someone in the house, Harry could hear shuffling in the lounge, like drawers were being opened in the sideboard and someone was riffling through papers. At the bottom of the stairs Harry debated whether to dart for the front door or face whoever was in house. There was moment of indignation why should she run? This was her home, she'd had enough of being pushed around and beat up lately it was about time she stood up for herself and not keep expecting some knight in shining armour to come rescue her.

Umbrella held high she turned the corner and there she saw a figure in black with a hood up, Harry screamed more in anger than fear as she ran towards the figure who spun round quickly, without any thought Harry ran forward her scream was like a battle cry. She swung at the intruder and managed a blow to the arm, which didn't do much to the intruder but did manage to completely break her umbrella, expecting some sort of fight to happen Harry was surprised that the intruded was momentarily stunned by the blow and the scream, whoever it was they turned and ran from the house tripping over as they flew from the room.

On their way out the front door, they ran straight into Jason who was shocked, Jason stumbled backwards giving the intruder time to run, and whoever it was, was light on their feet and fled at great speed. Jason was about to give chase, but he had to check on Harry first who was standing in the front room looking bewildered at her broken umbrella.

"Are you ok?" Jason ran to her side, his face and voice filled with frantic panic and concern.

"Yes, actually although can't say the same for my favourite umbrella!" Harry held it up so he could see. "You came back?" Harry asked utter surprise in her voice.

Jason took the umbrella from her and pulled her into his arms, his breath whispered against her hair, "Why the tone of surpise, I only went to get some fresh clothes and make some calls." He held her back from him so he could examine her more closely, "You sure you're ok?"

"Yeah, I wonder what he was looking for?" Harry didn't want to leave his embrace she felt like she could stay forever in his arms, never had she felt so safe and secure than when she was with him. Harry turned to the sideboard, all the drawers were open, her photos and papers and been riffled through, but she couldn't tell if anything had been taken. "What is going on?" Harry thought she could cry, but she held back, she had shed enough tears lately, then she remembered, it came flooding in like a tsunami, Jason didn't know, "Carl's dead! The police rang me this morning."

Jason was shocked but not as shocked as Harry, Jason had seen the state he was in and it had looked pretty bad. Jason took a steadying breath, "that's it, you're coming with me, get away from this place for a couple of weeks, give the police time."

"Time for what, they've let Kevin go, and now this... someone breaking in my house, this is all way out of control... I can't even think anymore." Harry sat back on the chair, every ounce of fight had left her.

Jason knelt before her and cupped her face in his hands, "I'm taking you away, you've no choice, I was making some calls this morning and it's all arranged a car will pick us up from the airport and we will go straight to my place, you need to get away from here, besides I can protect you better when you're with me and I've upped security at the house." Harry nodded, leaving her house sounded like a dream she needed to escape from the nightmare that was her life at the moment. Harry kissed her full on the lips it was full of passion and tenderness that reminded her of their night together, never had she been someone that fulfilled her in every way possible. "Come on get packed we leave in a couple of hours."
