Excitement took over Jennifer's body the moment she saw Mary through her window, drive into her compound. She gently lifted up Molly who was seated on her laps and dropped her on the floor before rushing outside to meet Mary who had already come out from her car. She lunched forward and pulled Mary into a bone crushing hug.
"Hope you brought something for me from Enugu?" she asked Mary after she broke the hug.
"I didn't bring anything," Mary replied.
"You can start going back to wherever you came from then," Jennifer said, already leaving Mary and walking back towards her door.
Mary laughed at her reaction. "I knew that the hug and excitement was all fake." She was walking behind Jennifer into the house.
Jennifer was seated next to Molly on the sofa when Mary entered the living room. Molly immediately jumped down from the sofa and went over to where Mary was standing, welcoming Mary with a bark and wagging her tail around her. Mary bent down and stroked Molly's back. "Molly, Molly, your owner is behaving stubborn today."
Mary took a seat next to Jennifer and faced her. "If I wait for you to offer me a seat, I would likely grow old standing."
"So you mean you actually came to visit me with an empty hand?" Jennifer asked her, her brows were arched.
Mary laughed her usual high pitched laughter. "I didn't come empty handed dear. Can't you see that something is on my hand? I'm carrying my handbag so I'm not empty handed."
Jennifer laughed at Mary's sarcastic reply but her face later beamed in happiness when she saw Mary pull out a bottle of peanut.
Mary handed the bottle of peanut to Jennifer. "It's not from Enugu but I know you love peanuts so I decided to get one for you at a supermarket on my way here."
Jennifer happily took the bottle of peanut from Mary and thanked her. She quickly went into her kitchen with it, put some of it in a flat plate and carried it on a tray back to her living room, along with a packet of juice and two glass.
"Refreshment is here!" she announced. Mary removed her heels and dropped them carelessly at a corner, along with her handbag.
"What if I snap you like this and send the picture to one of this our gossip blogs. It wouldn't be bad right," Jennifer who was now seated next to Mary said with a faked thoughtful look.
"If you try it just know that I'm going to pay you back. That's all I can say now," Mary said and threw in some peanuts into her mouth and forcibly chewed on them.
"Look at the way you're even chewing that peanut, it would make the perfect headline. Popular Nigerian actress seen without shoes and chewing peanuts like a goat." Jennifer ended with a laugh and the next thing she felt was Mary's handbag hitting her face.
"Ouch! I'm sorry, I'm sorry," she pleaded with her palms rubbing each other.
Mary finally stopped hitting her. "Better be."
Jennifer took a sip of her cold juice. "So tell me, did you have any nice experience shooting at Enugu?"
"You know the normal stress of acting, but I can't say I didn't have a good time there. We actually shot a part of the movie at a stream there. It was actually shallow but you need to see me shaking before I finally had the courage to enter the water." Mary finished with a laugh as her bittersweet experience at Enugu came back to her.
"But you Mary though. You can get scared so quickly but if it's to talk you would never come last," Jennifer said after Mary finished narrating her ordeal at the stream.
