One week had gone by and still, no word from Kola. Sometimes Jennifer found herself putting the blame on herself while other times she just told herself that she made the right decision bringing up the issue which had led to their break.
She was beginning to think that Kola finally found out there was no need for their relationship. After all, who would want to be in a relationship with someone who lets their insecurities get the best of them.
A soft knock on her door brought her out of her soul wrenching thoughts. She picked up Molly from her laps and dropped her on the sofa and then stood up to go and get the door.
She opened the door and saw the most unexpected person standing on her doorstep, putting on a yellow dress and carrying her usual aura that commanded so much respect and honor.
"Mrs. Shoyemi," Jennifer called out, still in disbelief.
Kola's mom gave her a warm smile.
"Hi Jennifer. Good day.""Good day ma'am. Please come inside." Jennifer led Mrs. Shoyemi inside the house and offered her a seat but she politely declined.
"I was supposed to come here today with my husband but he had to take a flight this morning to Abuja for a very important meeting." Mrs. Shoyemi paused and Jennifer noticed her eyes softened.
"When Kola broke the news to me that you and him were now together, he did it with so much happiness and joy that for a moment, I even thought that day was probably the most happiest day in his life. What I'm trying to say is that if there is one thing I am most sure of about Kola at the moment is that he adores you and has so much love for you."
Jennifer was almost tearing up at hearing what Kola's mom said to her.
"Jennifer, we are humans and we are all prone to make mistakes in our lives at some point or the other and trust me, I've learnt that the hard way."
Jennifer had to remember when Kola told her his parents almost spilt up because of his dad's mistake but then his mom had accepted him back when he came to apologize.
"Knowing that anyone can make a mistake, we must always be willing to give people second chances when we see that they are truly sorry for what they've done. Jennifer, the reason I came here today is to ask you to give Kola a chance to sort out things with you. I'm going to call him in now if you're ready."
"Kola is here?" Jennifer asked in surprise.
"Yes, he is in the car," Mrs. Shoyemi replied and Jennifer could hardly contain the joy that she was feeling at the thought of seeing Kola again. She was so taken aback when she saw Kola's mom at her doorstep that she had forgotten to notice that the lady drove a car into the compound.
"I want to speak to him."
"Thank you very much Jennifer. I would call Kola now." Mrs. Shoyemi brought out her iPhone from her black leather handbag and dialled Kola's number. She told him to come in as soon as he answered the call.
"I will step out now so that the both of you can talk." Mrs. Shoyemi turned around and walked out of the living room.
After a few seconds, the door was opened to reveal Kola. He slowly closed the door behind him and took slow steps towards Jennifer who could tell from how dull his eyes were that he had been depriving himself of enough sleep. He stopped some few steps away from her. Seeing him looking so drained out almost made her to pull him into a warm hug but she had to restrain herself and hear what he had to say.
"Before I say any other thing Jennifer, I want to say that I'm sorry for giving you space when you asked me to. It must have been one of the worst mistakes I've ever taken in my life."
