Chapter 12 - Soaked in school

Alexander's POV

I am currently walking towards my next subject which is science.

I can feel the stares of the students towards me as I walk pass the halls. I can barely hear them gossip.

“Hey, is that the new student here?”

“Oh my gosh, who would do such a thing?”

“Poor boy, I hope he doesn't get sick”

“He looks so soaked”

Thinking about their pity towards me makes me wanna say "It's okay, don't mind me."

Thank you all for your pity and concern but I'm fine. No need to worry about me. I thought of myself as I finally reach my destination.

I stood at the door frame with my head lowered glancing once at the students inside once in a while. I watch them stare at me which also includes the teacher of course.

The teacher finally came to his senses when he looked at me.

“Oh my goodness Alexander, what happened to you? You look horrible!” The teacher spoke up

Well, actually sir, a bunch of maniacs were just came walking towards me while I was doing my own business and they just spill glasses of water from random people on my head. I thought

I just shook my head and headed towards my seat.

“Are you sure?” No

I nodded my head.

“Okay, just tell us if you feel something okay? So that we can contact your mother immediately.” I nodded my head.

“So, class as I was saying, these are the main things you need to do in a volcanic eruption.” the teacher started the class.

More like, continued the class because what I noticed is that I was late for about ten minutes because I was sobbing my tears out inside the gents bathroom.

The bell finally rang signaling the end of the school.

Some students were heading towards their lockers and go home while the others still have last subjects for the day.

I was about to head out towards the school gate and head home when I heard a sound of my name being called from a far.

“Hey, Alex!” I turned to see Zander running towards me.

“Have you seen Isaiah anyw-woah you're soaked! What happened?” he asked me and I just shrugged.

“You'll catch a cold in that. Plus, the weather today's really cold. You think you can manage?” he asks and I just nodded my head.

Anyway, have you seen Isaiah anywhere? I went to look for him everywhere but he's no where to be found. Did you see him?” he asks and I took out a piece of paper from my bag and wrote my response.

Isaiah didn't came to school today because he said that he's been sick. He has a cold.

I showed him the paper and he frowned.

“Dammit. He had my Math homework. How am I supposed to get it passed in time?” my eyes widen at his response and I let out a chuckle.

He was about to walk out but I tugged his shirt slowly.

“Yes?”

I wrote another response.

I can help you :)

“Really? Geez, thank you so much, Alex” he said.

And by the said of those words, he lend me a copy of the given math problems and let me answer them all. After I finished, I gave it to him and just in time, he was able to submit his homework.

After some time, I noticed that it was going to be dark soon and as I click my phone open for the time, my eyes widen at the certain time.

6:30pm

I was about to run when Zander approached me.

“Hey Alex, um I just wanna say thank you for today, yeah? It was kinda embarrassing for me to ask you about the homework” he says while scratching the back of his neck.

I just nodded a few times and then after a few seconds I felt a sensation that comes rising from my nostrils.

“Achuu!” I sneezed and shivers afterwards.

“Oh no, you've got a cold. You better go now. You have a ride do you?”

I shook my head no at his statement.

“I can give you a ride home. Besides, it's getting dark out. You don't know what's lurking in the darkness, y'know.”

Nice try, bud but I'm fine you kn-

“Achuu!” another sneeze comes out of my nose.

“C'mon let's go. I'm taking you to your house. Besides, this can be a way of saying thanks to you for doing that shitty homework of mine.” he offers and I just nod.

We get inside of his car and he drove off. I gave him the directions towards our house. The car was filled with no other than my continues sneezes and he drove faster and got more worried. Once we stopped at my house, I quickly gave him a nod as a way of thanking him and he just says his last statement after the drive home.

“Thank you again for the hel-holy guacamole! You live in that house?!” he says with shock.

I nod my response

“It's huge! I wish I could visit here sometimes. If that's okay with you?” I shrugged with a smile and I waved him goodbye and he went off.

When I enter the house, I see my mother looking really worried and all and comes running towards me and gives me a tight hug.

“Oh honey I missed you so much. Why are you late? And why are you soaked in water?” my mom asks.

I grabbed a piece of paper but then she stopped me.

“I want you to tell me.” she starts “I want you to tell me, please. I want to hear your voice again. It's been almost two months since you didn't speak and I miss your sweet voice. Please, Alex. I want you to speak. I can't live in silence anymore.” she says with a glint of a tear in her eyes. I move closer to her and wiped it of with my thumb.

“Of course, mother.” I whispered

For almost two months of being silent, I was able to speak again. Hearing my voice again seems a bit awkward and all and I think some changes have been made. It sounds a bit different now and I think I'm not used to it.

“Thank you, Alexander” she says.

“You're welcome, mom” I replied with a smile on my face.

“Now, tell me why you arrived at this point of time.” she asks.

“I had to help a friend do his homework in time because another friend of mine brought his homework home and now, he was absent today.” I explained.

“Glad that you're having friends already.” I smiled at her response.

“Now, mind telling me why you are dripping water all over the floor and you're soaked?”

“I-I” before I could even continue, I was again interrupted by another sneeze.

“Achuu!”

“Gosh, Alex. Go take a bath before you could catch a cold.”

At her last words, I ran towards the bathroom and hurriedly took a bath.
