I'm currently sitting on a hard plastic chair in the waiting room of my doctors office waiting to get tested.  I usually get tested every so often and I always use protection so I guess I'm not too worried.  Although it seems like I sleep with the masses, I've only slept with maybe eight or ten women. I know, still more than you would like but I'm clearly young and dumb and when you're high on the feeling of winning a race, sex doesn't seem inappropriate to me.  Or...at least it didn't until I decided I wanted to go after Camila again.

After 30 minutes of waiting I got called back and the nurse took some blood and other samples before she told me I could go and they'd call me with my test results.

Having knocked one thing off my list I stop by the boutique on the way home and get Aaliyah's dress and my suit.

Arriving to my neighborhood I happen to see Camila's Range Rover leaving through the out gate.  She's notices me and waves briefly.  I wave back and shoot her a quick smile.  I don't know where she's going but as I look at my watch I see there is only a few hours until the banquet so I'm sure she's going to get her hair and nails done with my sister.  I saw Liyah texting with her yesterday while we were doing our fittings.  I'm silently glad that my sister and Camila have such a good friendship.  I won't use that to my advantage but I know my sister loves me and if she sees that my intentions are good from this point forward, she might help me get Camila to at least give me a chance.

Once I'm home, my mom pulls me into the kitchen and my dad is sitting at the island waiting for me.  He's got a serious look on his face and I'm suddenly very anxious.

"Son, have a seat." He says.  I walk to sit next to him at the island and my mom walks to the other side to look between us.

"Shawn.... you're father wanted to apologize for yesterday and I have a question for you." My mom starts to conversation.   Turning to my dad, he still looks serious, but he also looks concerned.

"Shawn, I'm sorry for getting in your face yesterday, you're a grown man and we don't get to make decisions for you anymore." He starts.  "With that said, this thing with Camila, you need to be careful.  I know you basically idolize Mario and while that hurts me a little, I understand it.  I don't race like he does.  I just hope your master plan doesn't involve using his lovely daughter to get what you want."

"And what is it that you think I want dad?" I say defensively.

"I think you want to have Mario notice you and see you as not just a little boy who likes to race and also not the boy who broke his daughters heart." He states plainly, a hint of anger evident in his voice.

"Dad, you know that's not fair and yes I may want to be like him, but that doesn't mean that I don't wish I was more like you." I say convincingly.

The expression on his face changes and my mom takes this as her opportunity to ask her question.

"Honey...do you like Camila?  I mean really?  I know what Aaliyah told us about she thinks but I need to hear it from you." She says.

I take a minute to breathe and decide it's now or never.

"Yes. I do like her, I think I always have.  If I hadn't screwed up all those years ago, I'm sure things would be different." I sigh running my hands through my hair.

My mom smiles "That's all I needed to know."

"Shawn, like I said, I'm sorry for yesterday, but can you let me be your dad for a few minutes?" My dad says raising an eyebrow at me.

"You're always my dad."

"Son, if you want Camila to forgive you, might I suggest you keep it on your pants to start and don't chase the poor girl around the track anymore.  You have to earn her trust back and it's not going to be easy.  She's extremely independent." He says.

"I know dad. Trust me Aaliyah will be all over me if I screw up again."

"I think for now you should try and be her friend. See where that goes." My father suggests and I nod in agreement.

With that, we all share hugs and my dad seems to be in a better mood when he realizes his son is capable of being better, I have him to thank for that.

Third person

Across the neighborhood Camila is now home and getting ready. James already has some of the guys over so she's trying to stay in her room until it's time to make an entrance. Her dress is a little riskayyy...but she loves it and when she showed it to Emma and Aaliyah her confidence boosted as they whistled and told her how sexy she looked.

As the banquet drew nearer, she became increasing more anxious about seeing Shawn. They didn't quite get to finish their conversation yesterday and she wondering if he would try and talk to her tonight. She kind of couldn't wait to see what he'd be wearing or what girl he had on his arm. Part of the banquet involved walking a red carpet so she was sure she'd see him sooner than later.

The Banquet Begins....

Low and behold, the Mendes family was one of the first to arrive. Karen and Manny walked together while Shawn walked with Aaliyah. Even the paparazzi and the news channels covering the event were surprised that "the" Shawn Mendes was flying solo.

Camila's POV

"Oh my god!" I hear Emma whisper next to me.

"What?"

"Look who's here." Emma said as she raised her eyebrows in the way of the kitchen.

Shawn was standing talking to his dad by the open bar grabbing a drink and I couldn't help but notice how nice he looked. I mean.....

I felt my mouth go dry and my skin prick with chills

I felt my mouth go dry and my skin prick with chills. Shawn looks so good in is black patterned jacket and perfectly quaffed hair. Damn!  His friends Niall and Connor look equally as good and I think even Emma is having a reaction she didn't expect.

We turn back around quickly so they don't see us through the window. We haven't made our grand entrance yet so we are hiding on the balcony that overlooks the other side of the house where the kitchen is. It's not too far, so I have the perfect view of Shawn.

Deciding now is as good a time as any, I grab Emma's hand and we head to walk the carpet.
