After a very long flight and a few delays I was finally in Tulum, Mexico. The warm sun hitting my face as I found myself standing outside the airport waiting for the shuttle to come get me to go to Amansala, the beautiful resort I would be staying out. My skin was already craving the massages, the hot yoga and the sun and surf I was about to immerse myself in for the next three weeks.
It felt kind of selfish coming here on my own, but I knew in order for me to even begin to forgive Mario for what he'd done to our family and keep a level head with Shawn; I needed to do this, I needed to get away from it all.
As the shuttle arrived, I grabbed my bag and a nice man named Carlos helped me into the van. I found myself sitting next to a beautifully tanned woman about my age. After texting Shawn and my mama that I had made it safely, I spent some time getting to know my seat mate. Her name is Bella and she too is here on retreat from the states. Turns out she's a nurse that lives in New York and just like Indiana, the winter months were coming and she wanted to get away to some place warm for awhile. We got to chatting and it turns out she's a big fan of Shawn's and when she put two and two together, she squealed in excitement. I made a mental note to tell Shawn about Bella once I was situated in my room.
Arriving at the resort, Carlos helped us unload our bags and escorted us inside to get checked in. Bella and I decided to stick together and luckily will be next door neighbors during our stay. I'm secretly glad I'm not completely alone now that I'm here.
A nice young man named Maximo helped us carry our bags to our rooms. Buzzing with excitement I can't wait to see if the room looked just like it was pictured. Like a little girl on Christmas, I hurriedly open my door.

Literal paradise. This place, my room felt magical and brought me almost to an instant calm. The clear blue skies, the aqua blue pool and the light reflecting off the beautifully designed room was breathtaking.
I found a home from most of my things and then changed into a pink bikini with a white cover up and flip flops. Grabbing my sunglasses, I made sure I had all the essentials and went to knock on Bella's door. We had found out during the drive over that we had booked many of the same activities. First on the list was visiting a local hotspot that everyone in Tulum seemed to love. Making sure I had my phone and my camera, we headed out.
