Chapter 2 - Amalie's POV

I'm not paying attention, as per usual, and Mackenzie leans over my lap and spins the wheel so we swerve into a tree.

People lie. They say everything goes in slow motion as something dangerous happens to you. But they're wrong, time speeds up.

Everything is fast as i slam my foot into the break and jolt backwards as the airbag crashes into my chest. I feel dizzy and just lay there stunned for which seems like hours but it must only be about a minute because the figure walks over to me.

"Oh my god, are you okay?" says the figure, a young lady in her 20s with her chestnut brown hair cut into a bob - she is very pretty even though she obviously isn't wearing makeup (I mean who has makeup during the apocalypse).

My eyes glance at her stripy t-shirt and I slowly nod. I then briskly swivel my head towards Kenzie. Her eyes are closed but she's breathing, I can see her chest rise up and down. Kenzie is 16 and 2 years younger than me, however she's always acted like the older one taking care of me. I realise it's time I took care of her.

I gently nudge Kenzie on her shoulder and she lets out a gasp and a whisper of "what happened?". I brush her hair out of her eyes and help her sit up as she registers her surroundings.

"Are you sure y'all girls are alright" asks the woman with her southern american accent.
"Yeah, sorry, I'm Amalie and this is my little sister Macken..." I start to say but get interrupted by my sister elbowing me and saying, "Kenzie, just Kenzie" she hates being called by her full name.
"Well I'm Maggie, Maggie Greene" the girl outstretches her hand and I shake it.

Maggie explains to us how she is looking for he husband Glenn and that she is alone with another survivor, Gale, who is hunting in the woods. I decide to tell Maggie about our plan to go to Costco, I am certain I can trust her. I must've got carried away because I ask Maggie if her and Gale would like to tag along to Costco as its the safest option for them.

"I would love to" Maggie replies with her head down. "But I gotta find Glenn... Unless you'd be willing to help me"
