Chapter 22 - Amalie's POV

{8 MONTHS LATER}

We've recently found a great place for everyone to stay after Costco was taken over by another group and eventually walkers.

Apparently other people had heard of Costco and how secure it is and wanted it for themselves. This other group came prepared for war with a tank which meant we lost and surrendered. But the joke's on them because all the noise attracted walkers and I guarantee most of them did not survive that herd.

Our new place is an old town that has great walls! It was obviously used before for people to stay in but they eventually abandoned it. There must've been a reason for this so we stay extra cautious and have guards on the fences 24/7.

The town is called "Amberwood". Well we guess this anyway as most of the shops have signs that include this name. Caesar stepped down as being leader so we had a vote for a new leader. Gale won the vote. I didn't vote for him but I must give it to him he's very persuasive. His speech convinced almost everyone to vote for him but i didn't buy it. So far he hasn't made any big mishaps as leader but that doesn't mean he's not going to.

Amberwood was a gold mine! There were so many medical supplies as well as food and much more. This is great for Maggie as it gives her a safe place to have the baby. We were worried she was going to have it in the forest after 3 months on the road before finding Amberwood 5 months ago. Maggie is surprisingly healthy and is doing fine, the person I'm really worried about medical wise is Hazel. Prim's told me she isn't doing good despite all the treatment she's getting. She tells me that what she really needs is not available, not even the amazing medical facilities at Amberwood has it.

It was always known Hazel wasn't going to live long due to her cancer but this apocalypse has decreased her life expectancy a lot. But you never know, Hazel is a strong girl and could live a little longer.
