Chapter 21
Suitor
Like always, Mom didn't stay here for long. I thought she'll be staying here for a day or two but I was wrong. After that occurence in my room, she left immediately in the morning. And because of that, I need to deal with Yaya's blabberings for more than a week now.
And today is just another day for me to hear her blabberings again.
"Nahihiya na talaga ako sa pamangkin ng Tita mo!" si Yaya habang nilalakad ako patungo sa parking lot.
I just eyed her unbelievably. Hindi pa rin ba siya titigil?
I just dismissed her words in my mind. I mean...not like I asked for his opinion about this matter pero, he didn't say anything. I'll just wait for him to tell me that he's tired of driving me to school and that settles it. Wala pa siyang sinabi na related dito kaya...why the fuss?
"Pasensya na talaga, hijo. Paano ba naman, hindi pa nakakahanap ng driver ang ina nitong si Einradelle." Yaya is doing it again in front of him.
Deonell was here in our parking lot with his car, listening to Yaya's blabberings. I don't know why he still looks attentive to whatever Yaya is saying when I'm sure he heard it multiple times now. Since Mom left that morning, hinahatid na ako ni Yaya patungo sa garahe para lang kausapin siya.
Wearing a faded blue jeans and a printed green shirt, Deonell chuckled while listening to Yaya. He glanced at me for a bit and I raised my brow. He just playfully winked at me and switched back his gaze to Yaya, who's still uttering the same words again.
"Pasensya na talaga, Deonell. Nakakaabala na kami sayo. Sana naman ay hindi sakit sa ulo itong alaga ko."
My ears tingled at what she said. My full attention is on Deonell now, waiting for his response. Kinakabahan rin ako slight. Slight lang naman. Alam ko kasi na hindi ako sakit sa ulo...well, sort of?
I took a deep breath right after he chuckled and smiled at Yaya.
"Hindi naman po kayo nakakaabala sa'kin. And besides..." he gave me a quick glance, "She's been a good girl. Nothing to worry about, Manang."
Good girl? I mean, his response was good but seriously? Girl?
I just listened to another round of apologies from Yaya. I couldn't afford being late now. Sana naman hindi matindi ang traffic.
"I'm sorry about Yaya. She's doing it again. And sorry if I'm bothering you or what." paumanhin ko kay Deonell nang tumulak na kami.
He gave me a quick glance while driving. Ako naman ay nakaabang sa reaksyon niya. Umiling naman siya.
"Don't be. It's fine with me. Hindi ka nga nakakaabala."
I snorted. "Come on, palagi nalang."
"What?" he looks confused.
"That's always your response. Wala bang bago?" usisa ko.
Natigilan naman siya. Looking at his side profile, I can clearly see how his adam's apple moved. His chiseled jawline clenched for a moment before I saw him clicked his tongue.
I crossed my arms while waiting for him to speak. He always tells me that he's fine with everything and of course, that's impossible. I now doubt whether he's just feigning it or what. Palagi nalang kasi.
